I heard when Punkbuster updated ages ago it used to think the Steam Overlay for non-Steam games was a hack. Now, I have the retail version of Crysis 2 and it just booted me from a server for having Steam on. Wouldn't even let me get into a game. Big deal right? I don't mind not using Steam since my laptop still works. I can chat with my buddies on that. It's only a minor inconvenience for me that will better everybody by preventing hackers! I mean, it does prevent cheating?

After disabling Steam and running Crysis 2 by itself w/o the overlay, the third round of Team Instant Action featured a player using an Aimbot and a Speed hack. He was sprinting through the map, headshot, headshot, and headshot. This is the same hack I saw yesterday when I could still use Steam overlay in game.

I really love Crysis 2. Has anybody else seen this issue too?


(Edit) I should mention that I know Crysis 2 isn't using punkbuster. Besides, I can use the Steam Overlay for Bad Company 2 which I also bought from retail, which does use punkbuster.

I don't think this game uses Punkbuster, though.

Nope, not getting kicked for the steam overlay, was just on a couple of servers with it with no issues.

Keep playing. If it took 3 matches for me to find a hacker, then no doubt you'll encounter one.
