Kill Animations: Love'em or Hate'm?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:56 am

I have been asking RL friends about how they feel regarding the kill movies and it's a mixed bag.

I really like them, but wish they would save them for tougher enemies sometimes.

Your thoughts?

I love 'em. I even used the "set killmoverandom to 100" cheat so it happens 100% of the time (so long as it if the last NPC in a group of hostiles to die).

It's utterly unsatisfying to get a sneak attack kill without an animation. More animations I say! (for stealth)

Outside stealth, it's sure a nice finish for a combat. Of course, if you play on super easy difficulty and nothing you kill is an accomplishment, then finishing moves might feel like they come too often. Whenever I kill an opponent and I don't get an animation, or the animation is too fast and nothing can be seen, it doesn't feel like a lethal blow.

I like them, though I use bows so I hardly see any.

Oddly I didn't even know they existed til recently. I was playing as destruction only kill so when I started an ebil character who uses daggers I was fairly confused...

They're fine though - they don't happen to me very often I have to say...

Yes, stealth kills should always have the animation

They aren't common enough to be annoying, and allow for some unintentional comedy.

"DO YOUR WORST!" - half second before decapitation move

Makes me giggle.. every.... single... time.

When I jumped on that dragons head and proceeded to plant my axe between it's eyes, it was awesome!

When I killed random bandit number 54819, not so much.

So yea, depends on the enemy.

I haven't played a stealther, but my 2H Redguard gets the kill movie 4 of 5 times lately because he's so beast.

Almost feels like it's messing with the flow of the game at times.

The poll options aren't mutually exclusive

I like them but they do get repetitive after a while.

I'd like an option to stay in first person for kill moves.

Sometimes after an animation I stay in third person and have to switch it back to first.
I also dislike forced third person ripping me out of my immersion.
As I said before release: Its fine the first ten times. It gets really, really old after a 1000.
I wish I could turn them off.

They do not happen everytime for me, so to me it is very satisfying when i defeat a enemy and the kill move kicks in.

Well you could try this mod when you dislike them then.

They are awesome even if they are a bit repetitive sometimes, how can you not like seeing your character be a beast a chop off people's heads or stylishly hack them to death?

Unfortunately I play on xbox :(

Still, that link is useful for pc players who want to turn them off :)

Edit, to poster above:
Well.. What I dont like is that its often pantomime swordplay. You know, where they plant a sword under your arm and then the 5 min death scene starts.
The weapon hits beside the target, next to the NPC entirely, doesnt connect.

This. I much prefer the 1st person ones, although the 3rd person ones are ok.

I feel like I could lump dragon encounters in to the same category. It's always awesome to fight and slay mythical beasts, but when they show up every time you come out of your fav meadhouse, the excitement of the "rare, thought-to be extinct" dragon kill turns into a rinse-and-repeat tangent from your quest/exploration flow. As background info, I have killed over 20 dragons in less than 30 hours played. The bones....they are SO HEAVY

For me the camera is to close for these Cutscenes and you don't get a good view of them , the camera should be back to side on so you can see the Kill.

I find 50% of the time when it goes to third person view the kill cam is so close up that I can only see my characters legs or chest :( its ok on big things like dragons though, is it just me or does anyone else have this problem?

I love them........

My Fav is the sneak kill......Gotta love coming up behind the unsuspecting victim and slitting their throat....Muwhahaha

The only one I hate is when one of those idiots throw you across a room with a shout. So while I am still in a frikkin cinematic for those 30 to 60 seconds. They are picking away at my HP with arrows with no chance to block the attack.......ANNOYING!!!
