When he speaks I think my volume is up too high.... Nope he just talks way to loud.

I have not killed him to find out.

Kill him and find out. Post what happens here as I'm contemplating killing him myself.

Sadly, I don't think he starts saying "I work for myself over at the general goods store." <_<

I killed him.
His shop never opened after that.
That was a few in-game weeks ago... *Shrugs*

Really? He's my favorite merchant in the game and generally provides my character (and player!) with a smile. :ermm:

So more Bethesda lies. Only if there were a song to sum up my feelings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyVVcQPJLgU

Ysolda will, if you have not married her.

Or she's already running The Bannered Mare if you've killed Hulda.

I'm pretty confused too and I'm right at my PC, so hold on a second while I try it...

EDIT: Ok, I made myself a nice dagger, snuck into the back of Belethor's shop during the day and murdered him while he was still on duty. 72 in-game hours later, nobody has taken over the shop and nobody in the game has taken notice.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ysolda says nothing about taking over the shop, but she is in the 'Belethor's General Goods' faction.

Just tried it. Nobody took it over.

Sigurd was inside though, just doing his normal routine, telling me to "come by the shop".

I killed Belethor on my first run through and no one EVER took the shop back over. I was probably around level 10 or so and played that character to +50. The store would respawn food and that's about it.

Don't kill him. It's a major PITA without him there because he's the only one in Whiterun who buys everything.
