I'm mainly curious to how far you can push it really... I doubt Bethesda would have written up backstory or a character for the replacements replacement
People become too scared to work in the haunted shop. You can't get that quest. svcks to be you.
So you get a quest to clear the haunted shop, easy enough. Then once you "banish the ghosts" you can brutally murder the next shop keeper. So long as the shop is very lucrative you keep doing this till your the only one left in Skyrim.
I think we only know that this happens for one shop in Riverwood (or whatever the town is called). We don't know that they're going to endlessly replace NPCs in every single house or store... just in that one instance so far.
There's no reason why it has to be a relative. Could just be some new enterprising individual who saw the store was recently put up for sale, and always fancied running their own business.

I don't think Riverwood would be an isolated case of this feature; perhaps not replacing every NPC but shopkeepers and quest givers perhaps due to the services they give.
But if so then my character will not be welcome in Riverwood...

But if you're not subtle about it they cotton on and murder you in your sleep as retribution. Game over.
You had your chance and blew it, so I guess the shop will be run by a dude with no relation (unless the shopkeepers sisters aunts brothers friends cousin left a note on what they wanted done but that would be silly, the quest would have to be something very important to have been carried along like this)
I think this is reading a little too deeply into that part. At least, I would certainly hope Bethesda is intelligent enough to realize that every person in the world can't possibly have infinite replacements...
