KillerGymSox's Fan Art Thread

Post » Tue Jun 29, 2010 10:51 pm

Alright, I was going to edit my previous post and just start uploading all my art there but I guess you cannot edit the title of the thread so I will just start a new one and from now on post only here for my art uploads. I have asked a moderator if I may do this and fully understand that the closer we get to Skyrim's release this thread may be moved to the actual fan art section and I am totally cool with that. Anywho here is the link to the picture you guys may have already seen:

Here is a work in progress for an Argonian Assassin/thief. He is going to be straddled in the corner of a wall as if to leap down on his victim(s). Yes, goofy pose as of now :D This is just 2 hours into the sketching process. Probably gonna add a dagger in his mouth or something and obviously I will be tweaking things here and there. Just wanted to share what I have so far and maybe take some ideas/thoughts about it. I figured I would do an Argonian since we have already seen the Khajiit and Orc.. Argonians need love too! I will be posting my art here from now on. Thanks!

May, 5 2011 UPDATE!: Argonian Painting now done.

Part 2 of the Argonian Painting: Lineart (most lines will be painted over anyway so if there are some that are showing through other layers its no biggie)

Is that really the best pose you could think of? It looks like... Yeah... I won't say.

@ Killer

Great work, and don't get me wrong Killer, but there's just something about that Argonian's pose, as he is right now, that makes me think he could really use a laxative.

That's pretty good. You use a wacom? I want to get one, hate trying to do photoshop stuff without one.

Doing art without a tablet is pretty much pointless. Tablets are artistic tools and a mouse is not :P. Yeah it is a tablet.. just a budget 100 dollar bamboo tablet but it does the trick for me as of now.

Edit: oh, and I can see the humor in the Argonian's pose as of now but please be respectful. I am hoping it looks better once I add in the walls and maybe some other things. I might have to tweak it or even scrap it depending on how it goes. Not a biggie either way but I guess we will see.

Love the Argonian, I may use him as my avatar :) I don't care what he looks like h is doing, my first thought was he was gonna pounce on a victim before I read your description, people are just perverts

could you do the same argonian but in a not so i really need to go to the bathroom pose? otherwise a very good argonian maybe him sneaking up on an imperial with a dagger drawn. oh read the description should have drawn at least part of the back ground in the third image and maybe the top of some persons head in the foreground

yeah, work in progress. From now on I think I will just post finalized paintings.. it will keep down the immaturity when it is fully realized. I will consider doing another argonian after this. I usually save the BG for last so yeah.

My first rule of thumb when designing (or illustrating) anything is that I never show the client a work in progress.

People tend to have preconceived notions of what the end product will look like which in turn slows down the execution process...not to mention can be really frustrating. :P

In your case, people believe that the Argonian is having a bowel movement. This mainly due to your perspective and your stroke widths. When presenting line art in the future (if necessary), try varying the weight of the strokes of each line, the ones closer to the eye being thicker...it will add a sense of depth to line art. These things can all be adjusted on a tablet according to pressure.

I really like the first complete one, and the color palette you used. Its very unique and quite appropriate.

Well done. :goodjob:

im used to posting work in progresses to actual art sites.. i guess there is a different mindset. oh, and the lineart is going to be painted over mostly anyway.

edit: rethinking the BG because of the pose. Thinking about having him sitting at a campfire on a wooden stool. Gonna do some feet reworking so they are actually planted on the ground, at least by the tips of his toes. Gonna add some loot next to him and some bushes probably. We shall see.

Thats the keyword. Not a different mindset but perhaps more knowledge about the development of a drawing, hence more understanding.

It's not immaturity, because it simply does look like it and instinctively, that is what a human will first think of because that is how we perceive the world with our eyes and brains, looking for something familiar. It also how we learn to walk properly, legs aside.

And I am certainly not being immature in saying that, to me, who is also artistic, he does look constipated. And it definitely isn't being rude, either! Nor offensive. And just because he may look it doesn't mean they're being immature, or that your work is inferior. It is stunning, really.

You can call it a different mindset, understanding how the development of art progresses, but it is putting a fancy label on something.

I am not going to tell you to be mindful of anything, that is how you wanted to draw it. And regardless of what he looks like, I do have high hopes that the completed work will be visually stunning.

If I was going to criticize anything, it would be to not take the words of people, here or otherwise, to heart. I do not think they were being rude or immature. And keep posting the steps you go through! For me, at least, it gives a deeper appreciation for the final product.

P.S. to all - I am mostly asleep typing this, so if I didn't make sense or rambled, I apologize.
