Killing Birds

Post » Mon Apr 05, 2010 12:30 pm

I was just thinking about everything that is confirmed so far for Skyrim I just remember birds are confirmed and I haven't seen much talk about them on here. I know you guys will probably think "What's so important about a stupid bird?"

Well I'm thinking maybe there will be a use for them in some way in Skyrim. Maybe hunting them will be an option, maybe they have some type of rare meat because it may be hard to successfully hunt and kill one. Don't know, can you guys think of any ideas? Or do you think birds are just in the game cause' they can be?

Also one more thing...don't you think it would be cool to see an omen, I believe that's what it's called, where a very, very flock of birds all fly around together right before...maybe Alduin comes in to play? Cause' I know in the gameplay trailer you see a few birds fly away when the dragon is flying, so maybe this will be a possibility.

If they have birds I would hope you can hunt them like anything else. Maybe collect feathers or something.

Only if I can loot their meat. If you can kill them just to kill them, then no thanks. They need to focus on other things.

Would having them be a simple detail/whatever the proper term for it is (like butterflies in Oblivion) be less taxing on our respective platforms? If so, I vote no. Killing birds is such a useless (and cruel; Why kill such an harmless creature in a brutal act of unrprovoked madness? :stare:) feature that it's not worth the RAM/very slight decrease in framerate, in my opinion.

I think you should be able to. It drives me kinda crazy when anything is just 'part of the scenery', like some of the flora in Oblivion.

And the birds seen so far have been scavenging ravens, which I could imagine being aggressive towards the character at times for some reason or another.

A happy medium between butterflies and cliffracers perhaps...

You're talking about birds, right?... Evolutionarily speaking? But yes, as I voted in the poll, I hope we can kill birds, collect their meat, cook it, and eat it, as well as all other animals in the game.

It's gonna be pretty difficult to shoot down the small birds (without any dragon shouts, of course). But I voted yes, 'cause it'll make the game a bit more realistic.

I hope this doesn't turn into a Hitchcock movie.

No. This isn't Red Dead Redemption. I'm not John Marston and I would rather shoot at dragons than birds personally.

Wow, this is a landmark moment guys. We're desperate enough that we've begun discussing whether we should be able to shoot birds.

op: HELL YES WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO KILL BIRDS!

I think I've been killing birds in games since way before RDR...

Zelda OoT, and MM (but birds were always enemy birds)
Fable 1
Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Solid 3 (and eating them too)
just to name a few

I think Skyrim should allow you to do it too. I'll be pissed if my arrows go right through birds like they're ghosts....

Agreed. Feathers, helpful for arrow crafting, if it gets that detailed. And Of course the meat.
Also it would be fun to shoot down some birds. Funny at that. :D

OMG yes, Do you know how satisfying it would be to headshot a bird with a bow and arrow then watch its ragdoll body smash into the ground, of course it would be a 1 in 100 shot if you hit one in mid air, but birds for me would an extra 10 hours of gameplay, no joke.

I don't think only dragons inhabitant in sky, so there will Birds also, but some cliffracers and giant wasp as well as levitating mages can be awesome prey for skilled archers, Skyrim must present really interesting Z axis game experience.
