Killing Paul Pembroke?

Post » Fri Jan 15, 2016 2:52 pm

My character is a mean [censored], killed off the younger Latimer and Cooke in one go. Now we've convinced Latimer and Cooke's daughter, Paul did it. Latimer wants him dead. But how do you go about the hit without getting the whole of Diamond City riled up against you?

Cooke is a cool guy. Cheating is hardly the worst crime one can commit in this game anyway. I'd rather convinced them that Marowski killed his son since in my game, Cookie is alive and he killed Trish but Marowski still blamed me for Cooke's death. I know he didn't die since there is no option to confess to his death. Anyway, I just snipe them close to the Diamond City gate in the morning when he's walking out the house and around the street. They don't usually aggro for me when I snipe people so far away. If that doesn't work, just kill him close to home plate, then go inside your house and sleep for 24 hours.

Paul seemed like a simple hapless sap but then I found out he ratted me out to Cooke's daughter. I was tempted to off him, but I "owed" Markowski 2,000 caps allegedly and I would rather take the chem manufacturer out of business (and get paid to do it) so I let Paul live. But if I ~were~ to try to kill him, it looks like you could pick the lock to his house and kill him inside there (ideally without son or wife present).

Not sure if that works. Last time round I offed Latimer himself, inside his residence an everyone got hostile when I came out.

It should work, I think you got caught or something, whenever I use sandman, no one ever goes off on me, and I killed a lot of people in the RR, Diamond City people, and in the BoS as well with it, never aggro anyone.

Since we're on the subject of DC Blues... I often genuinely forget the people I kill, so when Latimer sr. walked up to me one day and asked me if I killed his son I chose the sarcastic option which, ironically, came out as the honest truth - something along the lines of 'I kill a lot of people, don't usually ask for their names', and Latimer left but now Triggermen periodically attack me in Diamond City. Which is somewhat annoying since the ash piles from laser kills tend to not despawn... brings back bad Skyrim memories.

But anyway, I definitely didn't kill Cooke, but there didn't seem to be an option to tell his daughter that? Why?

There is an option for me, but it's red. However, either Paul or Malrowski will accuse you of it, so unless you can pass the speech check, she won't believe you.

I'm pretty sure I didn't have that option at all, since I remember being quite baffled by it. I'm also sure Cooke killed Trish and said he was leaving DC, and I convinced Pembroke to split the goods 70-30 in my favor, after which idk what he did with himself, but I went to the fishpacking plant.

Unless it's a bug i have no idea why I couldn't just tell Cooke's daughter that he left. I remember passing some speech check, but it was some semi-lie in the vein of 'I don't know the guy' (I thought it would come out as 'I don't know where he is, I barely knew him', but no...)

Weird, because I had that option to say I didn't kill him when i was accused of it, she then said that Paul said I killed him, even when I didn't, and when I said I didn't, she gets mad and said that one of us killed him and doesn't know who to believe. I didn't kill Cooke because I thought he was a cool guy.

I had no beef with Cooke either, which is why I found it weird I couldn't just be straight with his daughter. Oh well.

Not sure why you can't because I can and I can tell her that, but she just didn't believe me because good ol' Paul put the blame on me.

I wanted to do the whole thing without Paul getting involved (I told him I'd talk to Cooke alone), but the game bugged out when we ambushed the deal and Paul came anyway despite not knowing of it and he was bugged out with no dialogue. So much for taking different approaches with that quest.

So I had to bring Paul with me and I found him rather annoying by the time we were all in on ambushing the deal, especially when he starts whining about getting a share, like the filthy pleb did anything besides not please his wife, pfffh. Cooke though was a cool cat. Killed Trish myself, as I didn't need to know the password.

In the aftermath, I told Latimer his son had it coming getting into that business and he accepted my apology. Told Cooke's daughter I don't know where he went. And Paul took over for Cooke, but for some reason ended up dead and found his body where the deal took place. Must have been some weird bug, but I just went with it. He wanted to live the chem dealing life and ended up dead...somehow.

Oh, Cooke got in the way. I promised Trish to let her walk and he attacked her. Can't have that. Also, why should he get a share when I did all the work?

Mr Sandman for the win. I just snuck into their homes late at night while they were asleep and slit their throats, no hostility when exiting.

Eh, I was a man of my word too, I told Trish I'd let her go and I did. That Cooke had other ideas... well, that's between them and none of my business. Tough luck, Trish.

Trish didn't lie to me. Handed over the password just fine.

Anyway, I killed Pembroke and his wife. At their residence, at night, using a silenced weapon. When I sneaked out afterwards, the whole town took up arms. I managed to sneak off to Kellocks old residence and sat there for 24 hours. That solved the problem. But we're obviously back to everyone being a psychic, sensing an attack from miles away.

Nope.

I just collected my caps from Latimer. I never even did talk to Marovski.

That's why, if you talked to Malrowski, You'd know that Trish did tattle on you.

I remember running into Cooke's daughter and having her basically tell me that she knew I'd killed him, and that she was going to get to the bottom of it. That was hundreds of hours of gameplay ago, and nothing has ever come of it. I've actively looked for her in Diamond City and can't even find her. Is this a scenario that just kind of fizzles away to nothing? Or does something eventually come of it? I kept waiting for it to happen...but it just never has.

For what it's worth, I failed the charisma check with Trish, but just killed her afterward. I found a diagram explaining how to get into the chem lab on her corpse. Because of this, I never had to deal with her tattling on me. Latimer still approached me about killing his son. But he basically just says that "Marowski told him that it was me". I convinced him that it was actually Marowski, and got him to pay me the maximum amount of caps to take him out.

She won't attack you unless she had proofs. If you killed her father and admit to it and fail the speech check, she will attack you. It's 2 conversation sequence.

I see. I just recently started my second play through, and I'll definitely be taking a different approach to this quest once I get there.

With high charisma, you can talk her as well as Latimer out of suspecting you. I chose Pembroke to be my scapegoat, since he obviously was the one ratting me out.
