Kilts

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:20 am

and keep in mind the different a skirt u pull up a kilt you wrap and fasten...

I realize that. But the fashion was similar you must admit.

Note: I did add skirt in '' to question the ambiguity, since I have no knowledge as to how the Imperials dressed themselves in said 'skirts'.

But yeah... Kilts! :mohawk:

sgian dhu would make sense the translation literaly means dark knife. They were made for carrying a hidden blade. Fits perfectly into the idea of stealh combat focusing on knife combat

I know this is absurd, but Nessie...anyway, the kilt could also have ghillie broughes which were made to be used in mountainous or harsh terrain

It might make an interesting gameplay element if a particular kilt tartan was associated with each side of the impending Civil War, and each group reacted realistically, using it as a means of identification.

Nessie ftw!

Yeah, that's manly. Scotsmen wear it. Nords should wear it.

Only if it is the Great Kilt, the very long variety that you fold yourself and fasten over the shoulder with a pin or brooch. I got married with that variety and it would look dash cunning in game.

Also on a somewhat related thought, what about more historical small blades such as a traditional Sgian-dubh or a dirk? Or, in a more Scandinavian form, perhaps a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seax?

That would be nice to see. Especially a dirk and a seax.

As long as you can wear armored pants/greaves underneath...
Otherwise riding a horse might be uncomfortable.

This sounds totally like Braveheart. Nords with warpaint wearing kilts shouting "FREEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!" and we know Skyrim is in a separatist civil war.
Coincidence? I think not.

Kilts originated in the 16th century, so they have nothing to do with the middle ages, Braveheart (except the poorly costumed movie) or vikings.

I think skirts/kilts are already in the game.

My proof: look at the bottom-middle image on p.50-51 in GI-article.

Personally I don't want them. In my mind they don't belong to the game universe and wouldn't fit in to Nord culture as it's been presented in previous games.

I think you've suggested this more out of nationalism than anything else.

So true. As much as I love most things Scottish (being partly of Scottish descent myself), I just don't quite get the kilt thing. I'll take a pair of regular pants any day. Apparently Daggerfall had kilts (though I haven't gotten far enough in the game to see such yet), so I suppose they wouldn't be totally out of place in Skyrim. TES isn't a direct middle ages representation anyway, just mostly.

Why, the the head of the empire of course. Whoever that may be since the fall of the Septims. Are there still emperors?

They can eat our planet, but they can never eat our freedom!

To keep the balls cold... It's a great idea! ... just for the heck of it and the joke of it... it could be worth putting kilts in the game.
