Kind of armor in TES5 Skyrim

Post » Thu Jun 16, 2011 2:41 pm

A huge downside for me in Oblivion, along with over 100 other things, was the lack of different armors in the game, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't as much as in Morrowind. Do you guys think their should be roughly the same number of armors in Skyrim as in Oblivion, or should there be a lot more variety of armor like in Morrowind?

Confirmed that there will be more armor sets/pieces in Skyrim than there was in Oblivion.

That is all.

We do not know how many different types of armor will be in the game unfortunately.

I definitely liked Morrowind's armor more than Oblivion's.

I'm quite curious if we will see silver armor in Skyrim or not. There was silver weapons in Oblivion, but not armor.

I just loved the more variety that Morrowind had, it seemed like it had so much more armor than oblivion. Hopefully with the consoles dubbing the PC version down so much it won't effect how much armors there are in game.

There might be armor made out of dragon skin they said you can create your own armor through blacksmithing.

I think Oblivion had the right amount. Some of the armor types/designs in Morrowind were redundant, and I'd rather they spent their time polishing the staples we have become accustomed to (Daedric, Elven, Dwemer, ETC).

Quality>Quantity.

I kinda want to see Chitin return, but I also don't think it would make sense in Skyrim.

I completely disagree, even though I shouldn't because I am of German heritage.

Redundant? Explain?

Also another question, are you a console or PC player? It seems like it varies for what platform the person plays on I've noticed.

Sadly I don't see an awful lot of room left for more armour types in http://www.imageurlhost.com/images/5qr4i230cwy50ghvbwj.jpg picture.
We'll just have to wait and see.

Iron, Steel, and Daedric. Why did they have to put the name right there of all places.

Just watching the video and screenshots we have seen three types of leather armor, two types of iron and elven. We have also seen variations on armor, we have not seen chain or any of the better armors except elven.

Omigosh :(

Read about the perks and you won't be so devastated about this. It may be better this way, not sure yet.

But this is off topic.

The armors in Morrowind seemed bland to me, perhaps that is because I'm not taking the technology gap between MW and OB into account, but to me it seemed like there was less armor in OB, and the quality of each set was increased because of it.

Perhaps Bethesda has become more accustomed to this generations technology, and can blend both quality and quantity together seamlessly. but your poll seems to split that expectation in half, and I was forced to choose what I believe to be Quality(OB) over Quantity(MW).

Although, seeing as I've taken the time to explain myself, I can just as easily choose the "Other" option now :P

Bland? It's been awhile since I've played Morrowind, but if I remember correctly there were armors representative of many of the distinct cultures of Tamriel. Though perhaps a bit redundant at times, armor in Morrowind was anything but bland. Oblivion featured more or less generic brand armor, perhaps contributing to the smaller feel of the world as the armor was the same everywhere.

To put it bluntly, I want more than what both Oblivion and Morrowind offered. And please, don't make the selection linear in their effectiveness. Mix it up, so we have the reason why to pick one kind of armor over the other. A quick example: You're a paladin-type of warrior, who fights up close against your enemies most of the time with an aid of spells sometimes but not skilled in smithing to repair your armor, so the Dwemer armor might be the better choice for you because of its gargantuan durability, even though it is somewhat lesser in the armor rating per weight ratio compares to, say, an Orcish armor. Or a mage might favoring the Elven gauntlet over the Glass ones because of its better innate potency for enchanting in spite of its lower armor rating.

After looking at the different kinds of Morrowind armor, maybe it isn't just that there is more types of armors in Morrowind, although there is, it may be also that the armors are just more alien to us, while the armors in Oblivion are more familiar.

Still I would love to see more armor then in both.

Well what was awesome was that, as others have said, that there was armor kinds for each culture present. The ashlanders and natives would use chitin Netch. The Imperials would use imperial armor. Other regular folk would use stuff like steel and iron and whatever else they could buy in shops. The great houses would use bonemold. It was so awesome that you could instantly see who lived there as soon as you saw the local guards.
