Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:41 am

What does everyone think of this game? Apparently one of the designers from Morrowind and Oblivion is working on it, and R.A. Salvatore is involved. It might not be as good as Skyrim, but it still looks pretty good :).

Yeah, there isn't a whole lot of info other than screen shots, but I know the designers have described it as a big open world RPG. Given the names involved, it could end up being a big new IP. There are quite a few good looking RPG's out this year: Dragon Age II, Dungeon Siege III, Mass Effect 3, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and being capped off with the big one Skyrim :). Of all these besides Skyrim, Amalur looks the most interesting too me. Dungeon Siege III could be good, but I wasn't too impressed with the second game in that series.

Like povuholo, I need more info. So far it doesn't look anything special. Somehow the almost cartoony style and oversized weapons are off-putting. Who knows, though, maybe it ends up as a decent ARPG anyway.

If Ken Rolston is working on it, I'll keep my eye on it.

At least two actually: Ken Rolston and Mark Nelson, probably Fred Zeleny and a few others as well. Bethesda and BHG both have a few employees who have worked at the other which isn't surprising since they're fairly close by and are the only major game studios in the area,

I was quite interested when I heard Ken and Mark were working on an RPG for BHG but after it was revealed that Salvatore was involved I stopped following it. I really dislike Salvatore's work so even though I like several of the designers I don't imagine I'll be getting this.

Well, there is going to be a first gameplay video in Pax East, so we all can check that out and see what we think.

http://news.bigdownload.com/2011/02/12/pax-east-2011-panel-schedule-revealed/

Personally, I've been following it from the official announcement and know as much as I can about the game. My top 3 games of 2011 I'm most excited for:

3. Brink
2. Reckoning
1. Skyrim

Who knows, this might be very good.

Didn't realize they were going to show game play video so soon, definitely will check it out. Skyrim and Amalur are two of my most anticipated games.

In all honesty if it weren't for the people on these forums I would have never heard of the game and or completely have forgotten about it

It does look like something I'd try out but I'm not eagerly waiting in anticipation for it that's for sure

Seriously, what is with everyone on these forums putting Skyrim on top of an unreachable pedestal. Doesn't anyone remember Oblivion svcked? The only thing we know about Skyrim is it'll have good graphics, which is about all Oblivion was good for.

Rant over, the game looks pretty good, thanks for the heads up.

I think they're milking the fact that an ex-Elder Scrolls guy is working on it. One man alone didn't make games like Morrowind great. :/

What i've seen of it so far, it doesn't look like my cup of tea. The artwork looks very gaudy in my opinion... like a bad mix of fable and world of warcraft.

The only thing we know about Skyrim is it'll have good graphics among dozens of other improvements which have been confirmed,

Fixed that for you.

I just took a quick look on google. I'm guessing hes helping with the story being called an author and all.

Whats his style like, and why is it off putting for you?

Lead designer for the elder scroll games?? HECK YES I am interested in this game. It looks like it is going to be the next best game since the elder scrolls series! In that genre anyway. I am very excited about it.

Gimmicky twitch-combat and that painterly, stylized fantasy look that only ever worked in World of Warcraft and then the world got sick of seeing it. No thanks. Ken Rolston is great, but I almost feel as if they're kind of using his presence on the developer team as an excuse not to put a lot of innovation into the game.

I'm keeping an eye out. The giant sword stuff isn't usually my cup of tea, but the environments and concept art looks real cool. I gotta admit that the giant lore geek in me is incredibly excited by the thought of a comprehensive, thought out, series bible. I've not read anything of Salvatore's, so I can't judge, but I don't think anything I've heard so far sounds bad.

I've also got a sweet poster of it on mah wall >.>
