Kinmune and Saarthal

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:15 pm

Kinmune said that, well, Kinmune came to rest in Saarthal. We've gone to Saarthal, now, and discovered a strange, possibly Aedric, definitely magical artifact lying within it. The mages themselves didn't know anything about it, and applied a fanciful and mythological name as mages are wont to do, honoring their patron as always.

Ladies and gentlemen, I propose that the Eye of Magnus is, in fact, an Ayleid space robot.

Then what's the staff of Magnus' relation to KINMUNE? No wait, I got it, this is NGE, KINMUNE is lilith, and the staff of Magnus is the lance of Longinus.

So the dragons are the final production series of EVAs?

So that makes Mirabelle Misato, Savos Gendo, and Tolfdir Fuyutuski? And I guess that Thalmor spy would be Keel, with J'zargo as Asuka and Brelyna as Rei?

By god, it fits.

So then, who wants to make the "Neon Genesis Winterhold" video?

Quite all right. It's more a take on the whole "what the hell is this thing" going on with the Eye of Magnus. It came out of nowhere, wasn't explained, had poorly defined powers, and left just as quickly. May as well be Kinmune as anything else, given that they're both inexplicable magic artifacts lying in Saarthal. I'll grant you that the Eye is somewhat less explicable than Kinmune, though.

Actually, it kind of works. Maybe the Staff of Magnus is completely unrelated to The Eye/KINMUNE, it's just that it happened to be good at absorbing magicka?

And don't forget Arniel reproducing the disappearance of the Dwemer. Totally the last 5 minutes of End Of Evangelion.
Damn, now I really want Eva 3.33 to come out. Asuka gets eaten by a beserk Eva, and ends up only needing an eyepatch? Let's see Titus Mede pull off that kind of badassery.

As much as I'd like for the Eye to be connected with or equal Kinmune, it doesn't match up temporally, given what clues are present in said writing... though trying to establish any degree of concrete temporality in dealing with beings outside of linear time probably relegates me to the servants of the Madgod.

It was this last act that doomed her to becoming one of the Arena’s most feared villains. High King Ysgramor took the loss of the Dumb Old Giant, one of his greatest counselors outside of Torc and Talking-Belt, with great anger, and sent his Thanes and Shield-Biters against her, equipped with great relics and enchanted weapons of wasabi. And though the fight was hard, the champions of the Altmora managed to seal Kinmune beneath the always-burnt borders of Sarthaal, imprisoning her in its prismatic network of misunderstood dwemercraft.

By the time Kinmune is imprisoned within Saarthal, the city's already been destroyed.. and apparently Ysgramor built it ontop of dwemer/falmer ruins and we've yet to see the bottom of the rabbit-hole, but that doesn't make much sense either. Also, who do Torc and Talking-Belt refer to?

Then again, the Night of Tears, taken with Kinmune, can either add or detract from the argument's plausibility.

The Nords found something when they built their city, buried deep in the ground. They attempted to keep it buried, but the elves learned of it and coveted it for themselves. Thus they assaulted Saarthal, their goal not to drive the Nords out but to secure this power for themselves. I believe Ysgramor knew something of what the elves would find under Saarthal, and rallied together his people to keep the elves from gaining it. When Nords once again controlled Skyrim, this power was buried deep below the earth and sealed away.

So, at this point, Ysgramor -could- have already beaten and entombed Kinmune, and was attempting to make sure she didn't fall into elven hands... But then we have to go back to KINMUNE proper, where she frees herself and wanders off to cyrodiil.

:brokencomputer:

Edit: "one of the arena's most feared villains." Do we have any ancient thu'um wielding witches? Or just 'scary-evil-females?'

It's a good theory, actually, but wasn't KINMUNE housed in the Dwemer levels of Saarthal? (!)

[edit] Ninja-ed. And also: she was worshipped in the Reach. Does this mean the Old Gods of the Forsworn are really... From the future?

Alright, back up just a minute, this is the lore where "Kinmune" came from? Dumb Old Giant. Talking-Belt. Weapons of wasabi. Yeah, I hate to break this to you (not really), but someone wrote this while drunk, and would probably be laughing at you guys if he saw this thread.

KIMUNE is a time-traveling she-robot. I'm pretty sure things don't have to match up temporally.

Alpharius - I like how you think, but your avatar is driving me crazy. I keep expecting you to be Hellmouth.

MK apparently wrote a great many of the games' most interesting texts while drunk. We all come to our muses somehow.

It is a happy and pleasant coincidence that my avatar is Hellmouth's old one. Not having bothered to register until a few days ago, I was quite unaware that we had chosen the same avatar. I think it makes the joke work out rather well.
