no knife kills? really? ugh.

im sure ill get some flack for posting this comment but i think it's absolute crap that the knife is not a one hit weapon. why do i say this? because it's not easy. you completely compromise your position to do this because it requires you to get so close to the other player. i dare say it's probably the most difficult way to kill another player and it can be REALLY frustrating especially when your caught in the act.

this is why it should be a one hit kill .... the kill is the reward for taking such a risk. it's that simple.

knifing in modern games is one of the easiest gimmicks. For some reason people defend it as being hard, or taking skill... but you click a button and anyone in front of you instantly dies. It is used in twitch shooters so that CQC doesn't look rediculous.

Knives aren't even instant kills in RL, they are usually the noisiest/drawn out/unpredictable option a soldier has at his disposal. Sorry to burst your action hero and COD influenced bubble but any self respecting game will not have an instant OHK melee.

I for one, am glad that it's not a one hit kill. I'm so sick of people lunging through my bullets to stab me.

Ahem.

No.

In Brink, melee is not ment for killing, you won't risk running after someone to hit them.

No, you use melee if somone is next to you, you bump into eachother and you knock him down.

Sometimes you will go after people, if you can catch them by surprise, you can gunbutt them and shoot them while they are down or melee them again to finish them off, you could shoot a guy a few times then sprint towards him for a final blow with your knife if close enough.

There are many uses but none of which are "OMFG IMA RUN TO THEM BAD GUYS DERR AND KNIFE EM ALK HURP DER DERP".

In short, get your COD out of my BRINK.

End of story.

Edit: p.s. realisticly a knife would not kill a person in one cut/stab in most cases, mabey on a child but tgese are soldiers, well at least the security is. If you slit their throat or cut a major artery or stabbed them in the heart or in the head, then they would die almost instantly.

In real life, one bullet is enough to kill just about anything. I rather shoot someone with a high powerd gun, firing projectiles at high speeds into my target, then using a sharp object to stab my target using my own power and strength.
(Altho my hand alone can rip somones throat out :0 )

No one hit kills. That's one of the core pillars of BRINK. No amount of complaning and suggestions will ever change that ever.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has watched countless times as someone who ran around using their knife only in MW2 went positive? Yeah, never again.

If I ever became a game dev, melee lunge removal would be one of the first changes I made. I have no issue with melee being in the game, assuming that you don't whip out and put away a knife in under a second for an instant kill. Held knives can be insta-kill, since they are so limiting, but every other melee should be done with the butt of the gun (or whatever part you can, I guess). Melee lunge is one of the things that ruins games for me, along with hit detection. It's nice to see the hit detection getting better, but I haven't played a game yet where the melee was getting better. I sure hope that Brink is it.

Have you ever played Call of Duty? Have you watched any of the gameplay trailers? There is a lot of close to mid-range fighting, so getting in knife range wouldn't be THAT hard. Not to mention, by making the knife a OHK, you are encouraging people to compromise their positions and charge the enemy. Bullets should do more damage than knives, simple as that. And if there are going to be NO OHKs from guns, why on Earth would they make it to where a single knife would instantly kills you?

I MIGHT give you a knife to the back being a OHK, but I think making all knives OHK is going to encourage people to knife when they should shoot, which if it ends up being anything like CoD might work, which is NOT a good thing. :brokencomputer:

I'll throw my two cents into this. You want your OHK Knife go play cod. You want skill you play brink simple as that

its usally not a "risk". its a reaction. and sum1 who should obviously have been outmatched and outplayed gets lucky and the "should have been victor" basically gets bs'd. no ohk knifes lead to less bs moments overall.

first of all, knives are for stabbing. not slashing. that being said ... what do you think happens when you insert a 7 inch knife below the center of the left shoulder blade between the 3rd and 4th ribs pointing upward at a 30 degree angle toward the center mass of the chest? ill give you a hint. it perforates the left lung and enters the heart. granted you may not die for a minute or two but you can't yell for help either.

in RL ... (real life) the knife requires the most skill of any weapon that a soldier has at their disposal due in part that when used properly it allows them to incapacitate an individual in such a way that it makes ZERO noise rendering the ememy "combat ineffective" without making their presence known. why do you think they teach knife tactics to operators in the special forces community? because their ability to go unnoticed is absolutely critical.

wow. what a jerk.

Your knowledge of how to kill a man with a knife makes me uneasy, like when a topless guy sits next to you on the bus.... in winter

I have plays BFBC2 and enjoyed it still the knife was a OHK. Sure a knife in Real life can kill you in the right areas. But these are video games. I don't want a kid running with a pistol and knife to panic and stab my big toe and get a instant kill and start. Squealing over his mic " I'm pro!" at his team for a lucky BS moment. I'm glad that brink has no OHK knives. Or i can picture all the light weight operatives with a pistol and knife in hand. Stabbing each and every person on the enemy team while disguised. So if you cant take the challenge that is brink and its actual skill based combat. and new learning curve everyone will feel on launch day. Then cancel your pre-order and just rent the game. Before you determine if you truly want to own it.

First off, knives are for both slashing and stabbing, that's why they have the sharp edges and the sharp point, although I suppose it comes down to what kind of knife we're talking about.

Second, since there are no "canned animations" you're not going to have anybody carefully placing their knife between the 3rd and 4th rib at a 30 degree angle toward center mass, so it doesn't provide support to the idea of OHK knife attacks in Brink.

Treat the knife as a weapon that will be used in a "knife fight" situation and not a "tactical operation" situation. In that case it is much harder to kill in one shot, particularly when the opponent is aware of your attack.

And in RL the knife does not require the most skill, it requires a particular set of skills. Is it harder to use in general than a heavy machine gun? Yes, but that doesn't mean it takes more skill to use than the HMG is within more specified situations.

Moving on to the main issue though, when the game is a shooter and bullets are limited in strength in order to maintain a particular level of gunplay a knife that can one hit kill regularly becomes a severely OP weapon. It doesn't matter how much skill you feel it takes because if I shoot you 6 times and you don't go down only to stab me once and drop me, that is problematic.

One hit knife kills that take half a second with no disadvantage? No way that's going in my Brink.

'Nuff said.

Why do you think silencers were invented? To look cool? What do you think happens when a round is fired into the back of someone's skull from a silenced weapon? I'll give you a hint. They die. And I am not worried about what happens in real life anyways. In case you haven't noticed this is a forum for a VIDEO GAME. And in a video game having a button that instantly kills anyone on your screen within 10 feet of you (as it is in most games that include a knife) is unbalanced and NOT fun. And video games are about FUN, not realism. And calling people a jerk in an attempt to belittle their argument just makes you look incompetent. If you can't defend your point of view without insulting the other person then you've already lost.

People need to remmeber the TTK in this is higher than in COD, it willbe much easier to get into melee, especily in an agile body, instant knife kills would be OP.
