Knifing is overrated. Never bring a knife to a gun fight.

The melee one hit kill is becoming a game standard, and I strongly believe SD should have adopted this. BC2 has it best, you get a knife, you get their tags as well permanently. Taking this out shows a lack of understanding of the FPS genre in this particular regard.

Taking it out means SD wants to try something different from the standard. Nothing more.

What part of "REVOLUTION begins may 10th/13th" do you not get?

off topic but..
The newest wave of laymans are plain out irritating. I get that they are excited, and people like discussion, but don't use "other games have it" as an excuse! The whole damn point of BRINK is to break away from the Call-of-Duty inspired FPS norm!

No matter how revolutionary a car is, you don't take out the turbo and replace it with a blow drier.

I understand what you are saying, but I think you don't understand what I am saying. The humiliation/domination aspect of the knife one hit kill has become a key component of the online FPS experience. Taking it away, is cutting out a piece of the fun. This was a poor decision, or an inability to make it work in BRINK.

Btw, not sure if you're calling me a layman, but don't, rude and insulting.

In your opinion it was a poor decision. An opinion which, not a whole lot of people on these forums agree with. (This is evident by the posted poll).

if i cut your arm once you wont die, if you had a gun and i cut you once you'd shot me once and probably kill me, so why ask for a non-instakill weapon(IRL) to be OHK and a OHK weapon(IRL) to not be?

If you shoot a guy in the arm, he wont die either. The lethality of both weapons depends on placement. If you are comparing one bullet to one 6" combat knife stab, though, the knife would tend to do more trauma.

first of all, knives are for stabbing. not slashing. that being said ... what do you think happens when you insert a 7 inch knife below the center of the left shoulder blade between the 3rd and 4th ribs pointing upward at a 30 degree angle toward the center mass of the chest? ill give you a hint. it perforates the left lung and enters the heart. granted you may not die for a minute or two but you can't yell for help either.

in RL ... (real life) the knife requires the most skill of any weapon that a soldier has at their disposal due in part that when used properly it allows them to incapacitate an individual in such a way that it makes ZERO noise rendering the ememy "combat ineffective" without making their presence known. why do you think they teach knife tactics to operators in the special forces community? because their ability to go unnoticed is absolutely critical.

wow. what a jerk.

If the game gave you an OHK if you managed to hit that target of about 1"x4", along with headshots, then I wouldn't mind. This is a horrible argument for claiming that all knife attacks should be OHK though.

the stab in BC2 is perfect and is what i was referring to when i started this thread. my apologizes for not making that clear. it has a slight delay and a very small effective radius making it almost worthless when used defensibly .... or offensively for that matter. you will never see someone run into a room and take out more then one player with a knife before being shot. it's just too slow. stabbing in BC2 is almost always a planned event and it requires a fair amount of skill.

Then you should be happy about the way knives are in brink. Now they are actually useful in normal gameplay, and not just a gimmick. You can use your knife whenever you want while still holding your pistol, so you just have to get in close, shoot a few times, and stab and they are down much faster than the pistol alone. Or, you can knock them down with a slide tackle and stab them, as rammite pointed out.

Why do you think silencers were invented? To look cool? What do you think happens when a round is fired into the back of someone's skull from a silenced weapon? I'll give you a hint. They die. And I am not worried about what happens in real life anyways. In case you haven't noticed this is a forum for a VIDEO GAME. And in a video game having a button that instantly kills anyone on your screen within 10 feet of you (as it is in most games that include a knife) is unbalanced and NOT fun. And video games are about FUN, not realism. And calling people a jerk in an attempt to belittle their argument just makes you look incompetent. If you can't defend your point of view without insulting the other person then you've already lost.

Suppressors are not truly silent. They can cut down on almost all of the gunshot, but there is still noise from the gun parts moving, bullet traveling through the air, and impacting the target. If you were to use a .22 pistol like SOCOM does, then you could make this argument, but most bullets still make noise when suppressed, its just a different and less-loud noise.

ehhh. pardon me but i do believe that you were the one who did the insulting. in case you don't remember i took the liberty of re-posted your comment for you.
Sorry to burst your action hero and COD influenced bubble but any self respecting game will not have an instant OHK melee.

let's make something very clear ... i did not belittle you, i called you a jerk in reference to your tone. had i belittled you i would have insulted your mental capacity. as its clear that you obviously wade in the shallow end of the dream pool concerning the later i want you to note that i will NOW proceed to belittle you. having said that ... not only are you a jerk but your also a pseudo-intellectual. just in case you don't know what that means ... it's a person exhibiting intellectual pretensions that have no basis in sound scholarship. (means your full of [censored]e)

get your facts straight. a suppressed weapon is NOT SILENT. granted, the poor chap that just took a round to the back of the head may not be the wiser but i can't say the same thing for anyone that happens to be standing within several hundred meters.

had it been up to you i have a feeling we would all be running around shooting giggle bullets out of pink fuzzy rifles and lobbing hand grenade shaped sugar cookies at one another.

How is removing something that takes all of the fun out of suprize close encounters and makes it so you are instantly killed if you are within ten feet of someone a poor desicion?

ok just my thought
They made it so a highpower rifle can't kill you in one hit
they made it so nadas/noobtubes can't OHK you
But you think that they should make it so a knife cut can OHK?

OHK knifing in other games isn't really that skillful, you just need to have the jump on someone.

Brink's melee system is enhancing the skill used by requiring a slide tackle with a melee followup, its the best you're gonna get. Its not instant and it can be defended against.

No point in mentioning realism, no point in mentioning other games, this is a conscious decision by the developer to implement their own system that is designed to work with the game it is a part of.

Making knives a OHK is a terrible idea. It would destroy the delicate balance that SD has worked so hard to establish and maintain.

Well, OHK or not, it would be nice if there's a specific way to kill someone where you get their tags or something.

It doesn't matter what the developers say or do someone always going to complain it's not the opposite way.

Again this is 1 of many reasons Brink is attracting so many players by going against the old cookie cutter mold of fps on ohk.

Maybe if there is the whole backstabing thing like in tf2 and it should completely replace your secondary weapon

I always did enjoy collecting dog tags but it doesn't fit Brink. Hopefully Battlefield 3.

There is no backstab.

No, it's going with the grain, and ahead of it. It's not really going more so against it, as it's taking certain aspects to the next level. IMO

Yeah, no OHK knife kills is a good idea. Brink is a no OHK only if headshot a light body type with a long range weapon. But if you think about it, if we let knives be OHK then it will be mines and grenades and so on. But this is why I like about Brink, no WTF kill, they will all be worked for.

Two problems with this notion.

First, the developers are trying to tone down the "humiliation/domination" aspect of the game.

Second, it's hardly humiliating or a sign of domination when you can run up and stab somebody with a one hit kill weapon. It used to be a sign of something when you drew your knife and carved your oppenent to pieces with multiple aimed shots.

I like using knives, but I much prefer the way it was in CS to what it became in CoD
