I was wondering about the lore on knights in Cyrodill. I recall that in Morrowind, knights were mentioned as having a horse and land. I also recall the higher ranks of the legion were called knights. In Oblivion, we had four knightly orders that I'm aware of (White Stallion, Imperial Dragon, Thorn, and the Knights of the Nine.) So, does that mean that knights are exclusively part of knightly orders and the upper echelons of the legion? Are there independent ones in service to lords and such? Does knighthood enter one into the nobility? Any other info, such as their status in society, wealth, numbers, etc would be appreciated.
