Knock Knock, Crytek. Our Community and the Demo Dilemma

Yup, but its good for the threads to build up responses in the meantime. I don't think you understand the significance the knock knock threads have on Crytek. It'll be a headache on Monday for sure.

On the old gamesas, we had a Knock Knock thread regarding Crysis Wars support & security (I think it started out as a server problem), it erupted into a drama fest spanning hundreds of pages, locked threads, new ones being created, fired Crytek reps, and lies and evasion tactics from Crytek. It lasted about nine months or so, and we still never got any real response or solution. Maybe someone else can go into deeper detail than me because im not writing the eight pages it would take to even summarize it.

So when Crytek comes on tomorrow morning, they will be **** bricks, because that title is synonymous with fighting tooth and nail for what we demand and however long it takes.

We check the forums over weekends too, the original thread did not result in anyone getting fired. The problem with these threads is they tend to spiral out of control and go completely off topic. So long as it remains on topic and flaming to a minimum then it's no headaches for anyone and we can address the points made in it one by one.

Creating a thread with the intention of getting Crytek to "**** bricks" is not an ideal way to start it.

Thats not really nice...

Remember these are humans. I like you guys are rioting for what you believe but getting people fired isnt cool beans.

Can sombody send me the link to the old KNOCK KNOCK thread?

The old Knock Knock isn't available, so I'll post a brief summary:

Old gamesas:
1. Cell-666 posted a thread, "Knock Knock Crytek", essentially asking Crytek to fix the flaws, exploits and crash hacks being used against every server. Thread got closed after a great many pages.
2. Hawkeye started a second thread to get continuation. After repeatedly trying to make the point, Eddy said the issues were being worked on. Not certain here, but I think this one was closed too.
3. Nothing happened for a long time. Third thread made, attempting to get further. No result, more "we're working on it".
About this point, Hawkeye died. As he was essentially the "leader" of the campaign for Wars to be fixed, things died down for a while.

New gamesas:
4. All old threads lost. I posted a Knock Knock IV that got lost in about a day because the forums were so broken threads weren't bumped, and vanished after dropping off the second page.
5. Fifth thread created, deleted by Crytek. Eventually reappeared when the PHPBB forums were installed, but nobody noticed because it was on some ridiculously high page number.
6. Not entirely sure what happened to this one, I think it was asking why #5 was deleted. Presumably got deleted too.
7. This thread.

To summarise, not one of the major security flaws or game exploits (for example, being able to crash a server without even having to connect by sending a malformed packet. This was basically a format string error and would have taken five minutes to locate and ten seconds to fix) was ever fixed. At every turn Crytek said the issues were under consideration, being worked on, being discussed and more, and nothing ever happened. This has been going on for over a year.

As for Eddy, Knock Knock didn't get him fired.

Lol. It took 16 pages of no responses until I changed the thread title to catch Cryteks attention. It seems to have worked.

Its not the intention to get Crytek to **** bricks, but that is what seemed to have happened in previous threads like this. Hopefully this time it is a bit different and more civilized, as I honestly don't want the pain of a flame war either. ^-^

We didn't. Read my enormous post on page 16. Knock Knock had nothing to do with Eddy leaving Crytek.

The original post doesn't address Crytek in anyway so I am not entirely sure why you are looking for a Crytek reply, it seems to me you are trying to conduct a survey amongst the gamesas community members.

Crytek, as always, puts a huge value on our community and we do our very best to support you guys at all times, if you want direct answers you can always e-mail us community[at]crytek.com - in this instance if you would like to start a discussion on an important topic with us in the forums, it would help if you presented your issues in a clear manner and not just hosting a poll about pre-orders.

I should also point out that part of what you said is valid, as it's Sunday it would be unrealistic to expect everyone at Crytek to be available at this time, so on an issue as large/vast as this one, I'm not going to be able to give you all the information you are after until next week when i'll do my best to get every concern addressed.

well he had done **** that people didnt like, Knock Knock may not have been the reason but it might have contributed cause he wasnt a good CM, the only response was: we are working on it. for 3/4 months. That basicly means theyre evading the issue. no support okay but they could have said plain and clear: no support.

but thats old **** forget it

naming the Thread Knock Knock is a great way to attract attention from the old members and make this into a central topic to continue discussing the current issues, we just need to prevent it from derailing and getting closed

hereby im proposing to make this the official thread(sticky please) to discuss Community problems and Demo issues and i want to ask the CM's to delete any flaming/ranting post that is not contributing,

also making 1 central stickyed topic is a good way to keep things clear and organized(instead of 10topics a day popping up concerning the same issue)

Who's woth me??

PS; the expression "to **** bricks" just made my day
PPS: Tom is not evading this i guess he needs to discuss this matter in office tomorrow to form a offical response(this is to big to be ignored)

He left Crytek, dunno whether he was fired. Our intentions from the beginning were to get Wars fixed. Nothing more, nothing less.

Crytek, as always, puts a huge value on our community and we do our very best to support you guys at all times, if you want direct answers you can always e-mail us community[at]crytek.com

Look, I'm very happy that the demo is coming out for the Xbox 360, but the PC/PS3 guys deserve it just as much. The PC gamers actually deserve it more, because remember Crytek, they are THE ONES who got you to where you are today. They have supported and adored you as a developer for many years, and for you to release the demo just on one platform is just stabbing these guys in the back. I really feel for you guys. I just wanted to let you all know that a fellow Xbox 360 gamer thinks this whole situation is ****. I'm with you guys. :)

As tom pointed out the start of this thread isnt suite for this, if it gets stickyed or something i advise talon te rewrite the start of this thread to address the issues

I strongly believe a central topic for this huge issue is vital to keep things organized and clear

To be honest guys, a less dramatic title might help - or we should move this to feedback/support forum. Already after 18 pages this is getting quite off topic with discussions of former Crytek staff. If it continues like this it's going to be very difficult to pick out the valid points/concerns from some of the more... babble/flame posts.

I really want to make sure I can get my head around all the concerns here, but trying to moderate a thread adding a new page every 5 minutes is just not possible.

Eh, it's pretty hard to read, too.

Perhaps split off everything after here tp here into a seperate thread? That section's all basically just discussion of the old knock knock threads and what happened in them.

@ Tom

What if you make a sticky topic tomorrow concering these issues and you explain the concerns, or a respected forum member makes such a sticky topic, if you closely moderate that topic it should be possible to have a clear discussion about these issues and people can express their concerns and questions in a orderly way.

I think this is the best thing to do to prevent things going out of hand and prevent people to start flaming andmaking 10+ threads a day

Such a sticky would also show crytek will to support and help the community and that they care about their opininions, This could be positive since some question Crytek's loyalty to their community
