Knocking people out

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:02 pm

I wonder if it will be possible to sneak up behind someone and give them the sweet hilt music to the back of the head?

It'd be incredibly useful for us thieves. That way we don't have that deer in the headlights look when someone wakes up and catches us rummaging through their house, we can just blast them up against the side of their head before slipping out.

It would also be useful for thieves and assassins when engaging a mob of enemies. Sneak up, knock one of them unconscious, do some knife work on the other guy and finish him off just as the other one is coming back to his senses before you slice his throat.

Because those wear off really quickly.

I would love a truncheon type weapon like the blackjack in Thief, especially if some of the questlines are morally grey. I might not agree with killing the people I have to get past from an ethical perspective, and being able to knock them out would give me peace of mind. Not a huge priority I grant ye, but I can't imagine it would be such a far cry from stealth finishers to stealth finishers that knock people out instead of killing them.

You got me there. Kinda exclusive to mages though, especially now that alchemy is out IIRC.

I would like the ability to drop a guy with a punch to the head.
It would be most sweet when using my barbarian/berserker character.
(When killing a guy seems unnecessary).

For non violent roleplay's knockout's would be essential.

Number one reason.

Plus, I don't necessarily want to kill a character just because I also want to steal their stuff. I can be a compassionate thief.

use the enchanted dagger of healing/draining
it heals people, but damages their fatigue every time they use it

I'm thinking that's more of a non-lethal roleplay than a non-violent, but it would be nice if they added it.

No, wait. I think Todd confirmed that it was in but specifically said that it "wasn't really a big deal any more". I very much doubt that it's its own skill.

Edit: it came up in the Q&A at the end of the GI exclusivity if you're interested.

because if it's like Oblivion, then you can be kicked out of the guild and required to pay more than what the the house contained to get back in, and being able to pay half your bounty was pretty useful.

I don't expect a special animation and attack to be in the game, but blackjacks would be sweet.

Huh... still, TH definitely said that it wasn't a big deal any more. I'm sure he did because I remember being disappointed when he said it.

We in the thief guild has the practice to not killing victims, this has multiple reasons, the guards will demand far higher bribes, this cut into the profit margin, we try to have family friendly atmosphere in the guild (kids are good at picking pockets), if you kill somebody you can not come back an steal from the later. If you don't some other guild members might want.

Good idea in oblivion you could use damage fatigue poison on a iron dagger, it do some minor damage but keeps the victim knocked out a long time.

Why is alchemy out in Skyrim? I't popular and the dev said they worked on it.
Main problem is that we should be able to loot knocked down enemies. A nice way to avoid killing the victim.

Alchemy is moved from the magic class to the thief/ stealth class. He said it was not a big deal if alchemy is in stealth or magic as using any skill level you up.
We get three crafting skills: fighters get smithing (repair+ making things), mages get enchanting, yes back from Morrowind but no info. Stealth get alchemy.

you need to see what i quoted before responding. knocking someone out in that instance which i quoted makes no sense if theres an ability to slit throat
