Isn't there only the four classes? Or is there supposed to be more than that?

from what i keep seeing there are only 4 classes. i really wish there would be 2 more. i think 6 diverse classes would be better then 4.

Dragonknight, Sorceror, Templar and Nightblade.

All classes can use all weapon and armor types as well as the other skill lines unlockable in-game.

K so we have them all covered - (using traditional MMO terminology) - mage class, healer class, fighter class and dexterity type class.

This.

Also, you can be a sorcerer geared up in heavy armor and a two handed axe. (and be kick-ass :o)

Not quite that simple. All classes can tank, DPS and heal/support, depending on how you set them up.

Really? Only four? Oblivion had like 21 classes and Skyrim didn't have it because you could pick all the classes.

No bard and ranger?

Oh I know, just listing them in traditional terms (their starting points).

You can make a bard and a ranger from several of the basic start points.

Each class has three exclusive skill lines, and each race has one. There are many skill lines beyond these, however, and they're available to characters: weapons, armor, guild, et cetera. There's more information in http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/media/videos/657.

Neither did I, but this game will let you mix and match any skills after you started with a class (just have to start down the line of the skill paths you want). Your class comes with certain skills, then you just add in other skill lines to build whatever you want.

So considering all races have different skill lines do they have specific bonuses still like in Skyrim (ie argonian can breathe underwater, khajit have claws which is good for unarmed, certain races have innate resist damage bonuses) or are these null and void and contained within the specific racial skill lines?

Anything can be anything, but the classes are more suited to one style than another, and as such will be stronger if they specilize in that particular category.

Dragonknight (tank), Templar (healer), Nightblade (mdps) and Sorceror (rdps).

The differences may be small to start, but it'll be significant come endgame. You probably won't be able to get away with a sorceror tanking, a nightblade healing, and a templar dpsing.

Bud, if you want to be a ranger, just pick up a bow. If you want to be a weird ass paladin-y ranger, be a templar with a bow. Want to be the sneaky ranger? Be a nightblade with a bow.

Same thing goes for anything, you can be a tank while being a sorcerer. Just grab a set of heavy armor and a big blade/sword and shield.

Plus someone wanting to be rdps with a bow can start from Nightblade as well as the Sorcerer. Could even go bardlike from Templar.

Daedric Summoning + bow would be ranger-like too, I think.

Basically ESO has a hybrid system. Part class system, part freeform skill system like the SP games. Your class gives you three skill lines; you have other skill lines from race, weapon, armor, guilds (3 of em), PvP skills, crafting, and more. You can mix and match skills from any of these lines as you please.

So, if a class is a set of skill lines, there are thousands of em.

Class and weapon are the most important for combat though, so I think most people will be identifying themselves with those three, possibly with elaborations. I would call myself a "bow sorc" for instance, or more completely, "Bosmer leather summoner/dark bow sorc".

I'm sure the community will have cute little nicknames for the popular combinations soon enough; some people call the bow sorc an "arcane archer", for instance. You can think of those as the "real" class names.
