I know sprinting is confirmed

What looks completely ridiculous is the sneak animation from Morrowind and Oblivion. Since when did a person have to be half-crouching like they're pooping their pants to be sneaking around? Sneaking is about being quiet, moving through the shadows or cover, and staying out of people's field of vision. Its NOT about some ridiculous squatting position.

I say get read of the sneak mode. It never made sense.

Because I'm sure you can walk quietly standing just like usual.
If anything, I'd like them to add to it, not remove it. Stealth in TES has always been the most repetitive way, because of the lack of possibilities. I say add quick movements, thrown objects for distraction, an "on target" light spell that goes right in the NPC's eyes to blind him for a few seconds, a possibility to assassinate from specific tricky positions, etc...

yeah I know, I play Splinter Cell too much. Yet, I'd really love stealth to feel more varied this time

I would like to be able to quickly dash in sneak mode, but not fully sprint.

Considering it can be done IRL if you light footed, I want this.

I would hope they would illiminate "sneak mode" altogether and make a stealth system based on how fast you are moving, how visible you are, and how high your sneak skill is. Example, sneak skill affects how silently you can move, so the higher it is the closer you can get to an enemy before the A.I. "hears" you, and of course this would also be affected by how fast you are moving, so sprinting would cause most noise, then running, then walking, then crouching, then that slow movement while being crouched, and then not moving at all would be the levels of noise, and then all of them would also depend on the weight of your armor. So sneak becomes your character's ability to manage their noise production. Then your visibility would depend on you actually guiding your character into shadows, and out of enemies fields of vision

While I agree the animations leave a lot to be desired, get rid of sneak mode? And eliminate being able to play as a covert type of character? Surely not!

That's not what I said. If you read the rest of my post, I mentioned that stealth is about being quiet, using shadows, and staying out of the field of vision of enemies. Stealth mode isn't needed because its literally just squatting down. No, the stealth system should be so much more than that. Shadows, use of sound, throwing bottles to distract enemies, knocking people out, slitting peoples' throats, and all that good, dark stuff.

Stealth mode should just be replaced with a crouch button. I've always used it like that anyways. Maybe then we'll run into lower roofs and such. That would make for nasty fighting conditions (SPIDERS!).

With the perk system, we could (hopefully) see our mastery visibly in action. Sprinting while sneaking around would be an example of this. In Oblivion, I believe a Journeyman or higher could sneak successfully regardless of what boots were worn, but beforehand they made a difference in how easily you were detected. That perk gave the player an easy indication that they were above mere novices. Eventually, running while sneaking didn't make a difference, then, as a Master Sneak your undetected attacks ignored armor. When you looked back, or made a new character and snuck around, you realized just how powerful you've become on perks alone.

I am hoping for an answer to this question as well, seeing as my second playthrough with be a stealth character. I'm pretty sure you will be able to, as mentioned above, perks will more than likely be a visible indication of how far you've come in terms of skill levels. If it's something you won't be able to do in the beginning, a perk will grant you that power. If it is granted upon starting the game, it will probably be somewhat detrimental to your thieving plans until you obtain a perk that turns it into an advantage.

A sprint while stealthed is a very powerful tool that I'm sure will be obtained only by those that choose to focus on Sneak. I'm just hoping that, if Athletics is in, that it isn't only obtainable through that, a mix of Sneak and Athletics sure, but not just Athletics. I'm kinda hoping it's a sort of nimble dash, while silently doing this it would look awesome. Maybe if you attack while dashing, perhaps with a perk, you could do extra damage if you time the attack right while dashing.

I would think, and honestly hope, that sprinting and sneaking are mutually exclusive.

As sprinting has been confirmed, does that apply to stealth as well? Has that part been confirmed?

I know it’s a little thing but it would make the game so much better I think. Instead of having to get out of stealth to dart across the room for more cover say, obviously you would more likely to be seen when sprinting it stealth but if you executed right it would pay off, like knowing the person is about to turn around and see you so sprint up to them a kill them before your spotted ect.

A perk of stealth maybe?

Your thoughts on this? Other ways it could be implemented perhaps?

Excellent idea.

I like it, it would have to be louder than sneaking, but quieter than running. It would be a neat way to start a battle, or just for moving from cover to cover.

No it doesn't have to be louder. A person skilled enough can run quit fast through varying terrain while remaining quiet.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to Sprint while Sneaking. If you can though it should make a lot of noise when you do so.

Go read some tracking books by Tom Brown Jr. You can easily run while remaining quiet. You just have to learn how to place your weight correctly on different terrain.

EDIT: To be honest, I don't think anyone here is qualified enough to have a valid opinion about this subject.

The PC tries to move his legs as fast as he can while crouching at the same time.He sneak-sprints about 5 meters when he is noticed by the enemy, panicking,he trips over, and is wheezing on the ground, suffering from fatigue loss while the enemy start their attack.

Just imagining this made my day LOL XD
