I know thieves guild armor when i see it

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 11:52 am

Anybody else think its rather embarrassing that the Thieves Guild not only decided on a recognizable uniform,
but that any where you you go in skyrim they remind you how pointless it is wearing it in front of them.
And maybe im the only one but every time i step out of the Ratway I see a group of them swarm on one the thieves,
and i cant help but think "maybe if you werent wearing our uniform they would have recognized you."

Every time a guard tells me that ans says your not going to fool me I strip him naked and watch him walk away not realizing I just stole all his armor / weapons. Its quite funny.

But yea I don't like the fact that DB and thieves have uniforms that everyone knows, I would like to at least have a cloak or something to toss over my body to hide the armor and fact that I'm in league with a shady organization.

As for those darn thieves? no they can't be thieves they get caught before they even steal anything! the bodies keep piling up! at first it was funny but now I'm wondering where the guild is recruiting members from and if their stock is unlimited... Quality over quantity damn!

DB is worse in m,y opinion, brown leather is way better camouflage at night then that red... But I agree it's silly. Nothing a mod can't overhaul though :)

But the thieves have long been an established guild. It doesn't matter if you wear a uniform as long as you don't get caught.

i preferred how ob did thieves guild in the way of uniforms. none. they are thieves. they are supposed to blend in to the fabric of society, and what happened to beggers being super helpful to the thieves guild.

its not about being caught, its about how the guards recognize you, and thats another thin if they recognize you why dont they arrest you or something.

I think the Thieves Guild uniform is a power symbol. Something to tell the guard's you're not to be [censored] with. It's obvious because it can be. Anyone familiar with the Thieves Guild rightly fears it. It's even stated multiple times that their greatest patron has the power to throw anyone she wants into jail for as long as she wants.

Also, on this note: I think wearing full Forsworn Armor and running into a town or other people should at least spook them, maybe even incite a hostile reaction.

It may have something to do with Maven, at least in Riften, until you gain influence in the other holds I'm not sure... Innocent until proven guilty? but then... how do they know I killed that man way out in the middle of no where when there was only his horse standing nearby?

The thieves that get shot down are caught stealing. I always loot the crap off them.

Anyways, guards have said that to me, and then suddenly felt a draft...... Odd.

one of the biggest downers coming from fallout NV to skyrim was being able to wearing any armor anywhere and no one notices even if its imperial armor in windhelm. apparently all the people with good ideas for fallout 3 ended up leaving or got fired cause they missed so many opportunities its not even funny anymore.

I think it is one of those "Yeah, I'm a thief, but just try to pin a crime on me" type of a thing. I don't think it is illegal to be part of the thieves guild after all.

Guards arresting you for wearing the armor of the Thieves Guild is debatable, but they can also recognize your Dark Brotherhood armor...

Although Guards saying "Psst, I know who you are. Hail Sithis!" while you're sneaking is cool.

My thief doesn't wear any of that gear unless he's out on a mission and never around guards.

I cant speak for the npc's but my guy keeps it secret.

They don't do anything about it because of the consequences they'd face for messing with a member of the Thieves Guild without provocation. Maven Black-Briar would have them rot in jail or worse.

But... she's caught in a constant cycle of falling down and standing back up in my game...

Yeah, I make NPCs regret being flagged as "essential"

My gripe is that even when I'm not wearing any TG armor and walking through a city wear I've never stolen anything or trespassed (never been caught at it anywhere), I get guards calling me sneak-thief and warning me against lockpicking, etc. How in Oblivion could they possibly know? I could see it in Riften or in a place where I got busted for something, but not everywhere in Skyrim when I am and have been bounty free as far as thieving goes.

I joined Thieves Guild almost only beacuse thats the only armor I find good looking. Thieves guild in Oblivion was to me the best quests Ive played, but here its all evil and my character is good basically.

thats kind of how it should be after all they are thieves. the robin hood theme of oblivions was just to silly to take seriously. the thieves guild is the only guild that i actually like better than oblivions and thats saying alot cause i thought oblivion wasnt that great a game at least without 100s of mods. the only other improvement that was guild related was that i liked the DB members more since they seemed more grounded and less schyzophrenic than oblivioins over the top members but oblivions actual quest line blew skyrims out of the water.

considering some of the insane stuff I've heard you're tasked with in the questline, i'd assume they're not Stupid. unless you're dumb enough to be caught, better to leave you alone. I mean, if you were arrested without a charge, thieves guild armour or not, that town would be quite a lot higher on the thieves guild targets.

And, speaking for myself anyway, I've already helped with at least one problem in every hold, I'm Thane of half of them, but ignoring the thane part, they still owe enough, plus bar one particular hold i'll think of very loudly, the Jarls aren't that evil. stupid, perhaps. greedy, definitely, but not unjust with that sort of thing. The "He/She was wearing Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood armour!" argument can be countered with "So, I killed a Thief/Assassin. Are you complaining?" based on my various war armours.

Plus of course the "Hands to yourself, sneak-thief" and so on comments pop up anyway. i have pickpocket skill at the same level it started. lock-picking... I'm used to doors it'd be against their law to open being marked with bright red writing, blame fallout. I hadn't even started the thieves guild line before those came up.

edit: oddly the Dark Brotherhood armour i never had someone say anything more than they did when i wore any other armour... possibly the world of skyrim possesses a wanted poster system, or Dovahkiin is just that well known.

1. Thief armor is just enhanced leather armor. True, guards recognize you but they cant prove anything, not that you have "Hey I'm A Thief" badge.

What bugs me off is Nightingale armor,
Nightingale is very secretive brotherhood with only 3 active members at the time. Even some Thieves believe its just a myth and all of the sudden all whole bloody Skyrim knows I'm a thief cause of that armor.

This really annoys me because I only did a tiny bit of the Thieves Guild, after you basically get press ganged by that guy who approaches you in the street. I only did up until the end of the beehive burning mission, so I just use the armor for the increased carry weight and higher movement speed than my Orcish. I'm basiaclly not even a part of the Thieves Guild, but guards moan at me for using the armor.

Could you not kill another Thieves Guild member without being part of the group, and then take their armour? Then the guards' comments would be even more pointless

DB and Bards College are my two favorite factions, but damn it, you are right.
It kinda looks OK (even though I personally prefer total black DB uniform), but when you look at it a little bit better, you actually realize how stupid those red parts on the uniform are since they actually make no sense because red is definitely not a stealthy color (al DB members miss is a bulls-eye on their back, ffs).
Shame since clothes version of DB equipment (worn by mages) would look really damn cool if they were completely black.

Also, is it just me or does anyone else kinda finds it stupid that everyone knows where DB hideout is? >_>

you cant just arrest someone cause they MIGHT commit a crime, you can only punish them after you catch them committing one.
