Well, I guess that explains why Sturges is so good with tech...

Check the institute terminal it lists all the carivaners as synths, Carla, Cricket, the Doc, and the armor guy.

Sturges is a synth?

That explains the pompadour...

Thing is nothing ever comes from them being synths. Only McDonough has an actual affect of you discovering his identity (a quest), the others are just "Oh, he/she's a synth. Can't tell anyone or do anything about it!"

Kinda disappointing. Interesting to see how extensive the synth infiltration goes, though.

They're informants, not synths.

They're human informants, not Synths.

Reread the terminal.

Guess Sturges must have had some involvement with the Railroad (not that he'd remember it), considering the fact that he assists you against the Institute, so he's clearly not aware of his real origins.

Yep, killing both causes the "synth component" to spawn on their bodies.

Its normally impossible to see this for Sturges, because he is essential, but if you remove his essential tag and kill him he spawns one, even if you do it the first time you meet him in Concord.

Actually I'm not surprised to learn sturges is a synth. Everyone else falling apart, and there he is without a care. Always so optimistic. Unnaturally optimistic.

Wait, Paladin Danse was a Synth? How can that be considering he came from DC. Has the institute reached that far!? Or did they kill him and replace him when he got here. Kinda hard to believe they could do that on such short notice.

Of course, honestly. I figured Father was a Synth and they had Shaun stored somewhere else. Even following the Institute ending he could still be a synth considering it is awfully convenient for him to die so soon after you agree to follow the Institute and pass the point of no return.

The Institute doesn't reach that far, the Railroad does. Remember Harkness?

I suspect that, like most of the other Synths they rescue. Danse was mind wiped and smuggled out of the Commonwealth- in this case, to Rivet City.

It'll be explained a little bit if you do Blind Betrayal, which is a BoS quest. It can be done before the point of no return, with one exception (possibly a bug) that would take a bit to explain. To clarify, the point of no return is Mass Fusion. There have been incorrect rumors going about that the point of no return for all endings is who you choose to build the Signal Interceptor with. At the very least, I know for certain that none of the factions care too much if you build it with the Minutemen, and you can continue on for a long time (Mass Fusion) before having to removing possible endings from your playthrough.

I confirm, I built the Signal Interceptor with BoS, and at the end sided with Railroad and the Minutemen. Acually You can defect to any faction until You antagonize/destroy them.

Questions:
when you say Sturges is a synth, do you mean he's a institute controlled synth or a railroad synth? Also, how'd you find that out?

Yeah, Mass Fusion is the first point where you're forced to make enemies with one of the factions.

Also, don't know how to do another named quote during an edit >.< but

If you make Sturges vulnerable via the console, you can kill him, and he'll have a synth component on him. It's possible that they planned to make him a synth for the storyline and then changed their minds and forgot to take the synth component off, but I think it's more likely to assume that he is a synth. I would guess railroad synth that got his wiped since he doesn't make any moves against you if you're against the Institute, but your guess is as good as mine.

Seems like something Bethesda left behind. They've left a few things in already that have gone unused or were forgotten. Wouldn't be suprising if this was one of them, and if it was apart of a quest.

He is just a synth, apparently not Institute controlled given that he, you know, helps you destroy them.

As for how I know that

Magnolia??? Ah man. Now I have to kill her before anybody finds out I slept with her. Won't make that mistake in any other playthroughs. Filthy robot.
