I thought it was cool he played as an orc and comes across a staff that summons a (ghost?) wolf!

I think he may be the first person to die.
And that staff sounds awesome.

(If you think I'm poking fun, I'm not. There's something distinct about the way The Elder Scrolls series seems to ignore the issue of race that feels at once mature and perhaps over idealized.)

Sounds good.

But I think the author of this one was trying a little too hard.

I soon learned that I could shoot the ground in front of an oncoming attacker with my flame spell, which would set anyone alight who passed through it.

Very awesome.

Also liked the bit about the staff that summoned a (ghost?) wolf. Decent article, though there were a few missing words. :/

Typical Kotaku fashion lol. You can tell he's not really a fan of the series but that's ok, he still provides a few new snippets of information.

"The last Elder Scrolls game I tried to play, Morrowind, was my first Bethesda console game; I immediately returned it and bought it for PC. I hated the feeling of playing such a detailed FPS on a console."

.....please tell me he's kidding.

Staffs can summon ghost wolves! :celebration:

This indicates enchanting and magical items in general are way better than Oblivion.

Exactly. Not a good article. The guy came off as trying to exercise his writing chops more than saying anything meaningful about Skyrim.

Thanks for the post.

Anywho, as for those worried - it seems animal summons don't need to be constantly cast to keep it in this relm. Just a cast, and the wolf stayed there even after he put the staff away for a while. So some spells will ask for magicka up front and then give you the effect for x amount of time, and other spells will ask you to pay as you go. Very nice.

Awesome article, thanks for posting. The ghost staff part was really cool. Perhaps this is a sign that undeath has been expanded in terms of creatures that you can summon from beyond the grave?

Come to think of it, this may be the first instance of a regular creature summon we've heard of. There was the Frost Atronach the Dragon Priest summons but that's it. Perhaps it's not a ghost but what all (non-daedra) summoned creatures now look like? Correct me if I'm wrong, Daedra are summoned from Oblivion, while regular summons are just magic-based forms? Something like that maybe?

Oh yay. A guy who hated past TES games and is proud of the fact that he couldn't care less about the story and only wants to run around and kill stuff likes Skyrim.
