[Relz]Kragenir's Death Quest 1.06 (Thread 6)

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:31 pm

 I don't know if I missed something or what but I'm stuck on the helmet quest.
Spoiler
I'm at the point in the quest where I should summon Futurus' essense, but I only get the message that there's nothing here to summon.

Now, I could just force things with a setstage, but I don't beleive I would know where to go next.

Try moving around the ruins a bit, you need to be in a certain range of where Futurus will appear before it will work. I believe he appears in a shallow pool of water.

The next version slightly increases the distance at which you can summon the ghosts and also places a quest marker at the exact point.

I thought for the 2.0 release I'd be able to create the very appropriate 7th release thread but at this rate I won't be done yet then. :P

Malchik is testing the new quests at the moment and I've been fixing them, while working on the remaining Clutter quests. Things are looking good but there's still quite a bit that needs to be done so we're not going to be able to get this out in April. I'm not posting any more ETAs (because as you see I never get them right :P) unless I know for sure we're no more than a week away from release. But I'll keep everyone updated.

Sorry guys, I hope the wait will be worth it! :blush2:

Well, I found Doc! No idea where he was, because for some reason I could not be moved to him (my preference—particularly since I wanted to know where the little devil had gotten himself to.)

So anyway I just went to the new dwarf home and moved him to me. Everything progressed normally from there.

Now I'm stuck on the scroll in the sewer bit. C'mon, just a little hint!?!?! This is the umpteenth time I've traipsed through these sewers There's a lot of them. Maybe... oh, I don't know... seven! Just to find one little scroll???

I got so frustrated I went off on that stupid side-quest looking for a letter in a book. i won't spoil it for others but boy-oh-boy was I pissed over that one :banghead:

So, help me out here.I need a little pointer—not a big green one ==> :hubbahubba: just put me in the ballpark.

For the scroll you mean the one from the Vampire Rising quest?

That one is in the sewer part named
Spoiler
The South East Tunnel, on top of a crate.

I'll see if I can drop a hint in the game without spoiling it completely.

Yeah that one is awful at the moment. It's MUCH better in the next update with the quest keeping track of who you've talked to and who you haven't, quest markers to all NPCs and a better reward.

It would have been fine for just a couple of books. Buit because it was simply a process of elimination (and I stupidly overlooked one book) and there was one false clue and a red herring—I went all the way to Bruma, (Bah!) the ending was pretty disappointing.

I'll be interested to see what you've done with it.

Just curious, what made you think you'd have to go to Bruma? You shouldn't even have to leave the Elven Gardens district for the quest, aside from your visit to Phintias in the Market District and possibly for talking to Elven Gardens residents who could travel to another district during the day.

povuholo: This might come in handy for your Cluttermonkey quest: TESA Clutterers Guild (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090209-wipz-tesa-clutterers-guild/page__gopid__15899109&#entry15899109)

One of the characters (the girlfriend) in her dialog stated that she kept the book next to her bed to read while her boyfriend was in Bravil. She also said that she often went to Bruma (so did the Wiki.) Since there was no book near her bed (no table either) and no where else in the house, I tried the Jerralview Inn where she stays when she is in Bruma.

BTW there was no scroll anywhere in that small tunnel. lots of broken crates and a couple of active "Battered Crates." There was one that looked promising—had some dishes on it, but no scroll. I finally just used the console.

There is something about my particular setup where things just go missing. I have Duncan Stormfallow as a follower from another mod and he continually goes off on his own and I have to bring him back and tell him to follow me. I keep having faction conflicts with him and Shadowmere and every once in a while when he goes into the King & Queen everybody attacks him. :stare:

Anyway I finished the quest this afternoon and that brings up another niggle.

I specifically did not do Hircine's Daedric Quest because as a good Knight I refuse to kill a Unicorn and I didn't finish Clavicle Vile's because i wanted to keep Umbra as a zero weight item. Your quest forced me to do both.

Vile was easy to get around as I simply refused to give him Umbra and then consoled it back to a quest item with no weight. I anticipated a more difficult time with Hircine but when I got to the grove the unicorn was already dead :cryvaultboy: At least it saved me a crises of conscience. :whistling:

There is a quest mod called http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7514 that lets you trick Hircine and let the Unicorn live and possibly even ride it.
Would that work together with KDQ?

Actually you just have to get rid of Umbra in the ruin, it doesn't matter what you end up doing with the sword. I've reworded the dialogue and journal entry to reflect this.

Depends on how it handles this. Do you know if it adds new journal entries to the original Hircine quest? Does it still end the quest the same way? (Hircine was impressed with my skill in hunting the unicorn. He has rewarded me with the Savior's Hide.)

I've made a small tweak which should make compatibility more likely if it does indeed add new journal entries to that quest.

The Last Unicorn pretty much rearranges the whole quest and adds several additional stages.
The final stage reads
Hircine was duped by Darmicius Otilo's ruse. He has rewarded me with the Savior's Hide.

The final script adds these two lines:
StartQuest aaaPostHircine
setstage aaaPostHircine 10

Does it add any journal entries to the original DAHircine quest? I've changed it so that Thamriel will acknowledge that you've done the task for Hircine if the DAHircine stage is higher than 20. 20 is the stage where you're told to kill the unicorn, 30 is where you killed it, 100 is where you're rewarded.

If it adds any additional stages to the original DAHircine quest that is higher than 20, things should work out.

I could also check if the player has the Savior's Hide in his inventory but there's always the possibility he has sold or stored it somewhere when he's doing the last quest for Thamriel.

This is the sort of thing that enamors me of you modder types. I just cannot fathom the dedication it must take to build a complicated mod for the vanilla game. Adding in all the exponential conflicts of other (sometimes amateurish) mods must be beyond frustrating—although there must be a sense of (well earned) self satisfaction.

It changes Stage 20 slightly, making two different versions depending on wether you have already tamed the unicorn or not.
It removes Stage 30 and adds Stages 50, 60, 70 and 90 which deals with duping Hircine by finding another Unicorn Horn in a sunk ship.
So it sounds like it should be compatible?

Yeah in that case it should be compatible as soon as I release V2! :)

Question the first: Why in the name of Sithis did you mark http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Matthias_Draconis Essential?! He's one of the Draconis family members, which means he's got http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/thumb/e/e5/OB-quest-Next_of_Kin.jpg/799px-OB-quest-Next_of_Kin.jpg. And I sure as hell wasn't going to bother doing a bunch of quests to make him able to die again, which it seems I would have had to do if I had not used my basic script-fu to make him unessential again, because you broke a vanilla quest.

Are you sure he's permanently essential and not just temporarily?
Anyway you can make all NPC non-essential by changing one line in the oblivion.ini

Yes this was a mistake of mine, I made several NPCs related to KDQ quests essential, but accidentally added Matthias to that list of NPCs even though he's not actually important in any KDQ quests. And yeah, because he needs to be killed in that Dark Brotherhood quest that was pretty stupid. :P

It was fixed in V1.04 (26/08/2009) but it only prevents the problem from happening again, it didn't fix it for people already having the problemt by having played with older releases of the mod.

The bugs in the new Bravil quest(s) have been fixed, and I just sent the esp with the finished Cluttermonkey questline to Malchik, who will be testing that shortly. Once that one is bug free, all the quests that'll be added in the update are officially ready.

I've also made the planned improvements to the Tension in Town quest.

I think that means most of the big changes are done. Now it's all down to lots of small things, and re-testing a bunch of quests.

So the updated to-do list:

What's left to do:

  • Some rumour tweaks
  • Fix other reported bugs
  • Test some quests again
  • Finish the quest hints document
  • Upload mod
  • Relax until the first bug report! :disguise:

Heh, I'm just waiting for the new versions of KDQ, Oblivifall (Losing My Religion), COBL and MMM and my new game will be ready.
Last time I started playing KDQ with a mid level character who poked her curious whiskers into any dungeon she found. I think it will be much better with a sensible lvl 1 character.

Should be fun. :)

And now the main quest testing and tweaking is finally done. I don't know if you're going through it again but if you do I'm sure you'll notice the many improvements. :P

But I still don't dare to post an ETA. :D

Today! Nah. But most of the work is done now. And we're done adding new stuff. Of course that's what we always say but this time it's for real! :hubbahubba:

I just fixed lots of issues with The One Ring. It's a good thing most people don't do that quest. :D
