[Relz] Kragenir's Death Quest (Thread #4)

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:04 am

I need a hint (but hopefully no spoiler unless absolutely necessary) with Vampire Rising.

I began this quest ages ago, became stuck at the part where we need to find an item somewhere IC Arboretum, abandoned it and moved on to other things. I've now completed many of the Kragenir side quests and main quest, so am back to Vampire. Once again after an extensive search I've yet to find an item that updates my journal.

To complicate matters, I have a vague memory of coming upon an item at or next to the base of one of those circular stone statue pedestals (or maybe a mini garden). But picking up that item triggered no update. Nor do I recall what it was I found then, or what I did with it. Might have been coincidence?

To further complicate matters, I run ImpeREAL City - Unique Districts, which alters the Arboretum. Prolly doesn't matter, since ImpeREAL alters all the districts to an extent, and has never yet affected a Kragenir quest. Still, it's worth mentioning.

Unless there is a known glitch with this phase of Vampire, I'm looking, as mentioned above, more for hints at this time rather than an out-and-out spoiler.

Thanks in advance!

I picked up the 'Documents' side quest (the amulet and the helm). I have traced the owner of the amulet to Chorrol, but can't find Earana (I had done the Fingers of the Mountain quest earlier). Is there any way I can trace this NPC? Is there a 'placeatpc' console command for Oblivion, which will bring her to me?

Thanks.

Quest progress:

Sounds of Sweetest Harmony: Done.
Off the record: Done.
Out of Control: Actually not done. Uh... 9/10 done? :P
A Dyeing Wish: Done.
Rich pickings: Done.
Killing the Queen: Done.
Party Time: Not yet started.

Death and the Maiden: 3/4 done.
The Cluttermonkeys Guild: Not yet started.

Aside from that, this still needs to be done:

Documents quest and chest/cards of wonders quest improvements
Daedra Zoo being open at all times
A conversation with the vampire during Vampire Rising.
Additional NPCs to set essential
Minor tweaks
Quest Hints document update

Closer and closer! :)

Is there any quest in this that would set Mathias Draconis as essential? Or any NPC?

Decrepit,

I just completed the "vampires" quest which is impressive in its scope.

I do not use unique districts so I cannot confirm any possible conflict issues between the mods.

I can give you another clue though: as you have probably noticed, most of the quest line updates trigger when you speak to Thamriel after you have collected each pair of items and you activate the objects option speaking to her with them in your inventory.

She sends you to collect the items, you get them and then you speak to her and the quest updates: she removes the (pair of) items from your inventory and sends you searching for the next pair.

sorry I cannot confirm any compatibility issue...

take care

Yes it does set a couple of NPCs essential for the duration of certain quests, but Mathias Draconis was a mistake. He is sort of used in a quest, but the line he is given adds nothing of value. It was fixed in 1.04, but if you've encountered Larrion's ghost while playing V1.03 or lower updating the mod won't fix it.

You'll have to use the 'setessential 00030FDA 0' console command to make him killable. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I need a hint (but hopefully no spoiler unless absolutely necessary) with Vampire Rising.

I didn't see your post until now.

There isn't a journal entry associated with picking up some of the items, like the 3 pieces of garlic. It would probably make things a little less confusing if it did so I'll have a look at it. But it is normal behaviour.

I think I'll be able to finish Death and the Maiden today. It's pretty big. For example, the design document of Vampire Rising which includes all the dialogue and short descriptions of where items/creatures should be, what should happen, etc. is 4692 words long. The Death and the Maiden design document is 6623 words long. :)

I had a lot of free time yesterday so I spent around 5 hours on 'Death and the Maiden', but it's still not done. :P

But I'm pretty close to finishing that quest now.

A mid-late January release would be nice, don't you think?

You can bring yourself to her! :)

player.moveto 000277F0

I tried that, and teleported to the center of Chorrol. Earana was nowhere to be found. I suspected she was disabled, since I had completed the 'Fingers of the Mountain' quest for the Mages Guild prior to finding the letter about the amulet. I solved this using a series of console commands I found on the Construction Set Wiki:

prid 000277f0
moveto player
enable

This isolated Earana, moved her to my location (the square at Chorrol) and reactivated her. I have finished the amulet part of the quest (the 'documents' quest is still open, so I suspect there is more to find).

I was under the impression that Earana stayed in Chorrol even after the Mages Guild quest. I'll investigate to be sure. If she does disappear after the quest I'll use a different NPC.

Yes, there are 7 documents to be found. Right now the quest closes when you've found all seven. If you found this one while doing the mod's main quest you missed several already. This is why in the next version the document quests are no longer journal entry based (except that one with the amulet, because it's the only one with dialogue) so that you're not left with an open quest if you missed any. Which is quite likely.

I actually did that yesterday.

Death and the Maiden needs a few more tweaks but is otherwise done.

I may be able to say something about this: Earana stays forever in Chorrol, and is useable as quest NPC (I make heavy use of her as "rogue mage" info giver in Integration, for stuff the MG won't tell). Though as with all NPCs she can get killed and disappear. Happens rarely, but it does. The fate of all non essential NPCs. This doesn't need to involve weapons - just a random wrong step can cause a NPC to be thrown high into the air, and then fall down dead. I've seen this four or five times myself (though it wasn't Earana then, but other NPCs. Interestingly half of them in Chorrol. A dangerous place the city is!).

You can easily find out if that had happened: If moving the player to her causes the player to be stuck somewhere in Chorrol's center, hen she died and was already purged.

I'm not sure if there are any good solutions. For cases like this, when I'm using Vanilla NPCs as integral quest parts, I've put one replacement NPC filling their roles into Integration, if they're dead (similar to "Biff the Replacement" from Baldur's Gate). A bit cheesy, I know .

I am doing the Gauntlets of Gluttony quest, and have gone to Onyx Caverns. Problem is, I am using OOO and that mods makes this an Amazon lair. I found 2 named Argonians dead in the cave. Are either of these the bandits I need to find, in order to advance the quest? If so, will using the 'resurrect' console command on one or both be necessary to advance the quest?

Thanks.

Spoiler
They are supposed to be dead. There are actually 3 named Argonians. The one named 'Holds-his-nose' has a letter which will advance the quest if you read it.

In the book Daedric Eyes it is said to be in Fort Caractacus. It's there. It should be on your map already and as the book says it lies to the north of the Imperial City near Aleswell.

I have another question about the Gauntlets of GLuttony quest:

Spoiler
I found the Gauntlets of the Truffle Seeker on the Redguard Bandit in Bawn. Was I supposed to get a quest update? I tried speaking to Dar-Jee, Bul-Eemia (Argonian who sent me to Bawn), and even Lemme Atem, and none of them react.

:banghead: Never mind. While looking through the older message threads, I was reminded Doc was just outside the door in Bawn.

I'm currently on the fishing quest. Frustrating but I'll get through it. This is a very good mod. Not too hard, not too easy. Very very cool use of existing areas.

I jusst wondered...would you be interested in making a similar mod for Shivering Isles? Not exactly the same, but maybe just add a whole bunch of small quests...That section of the game is sorely lacking.

Well I'm pretty much done with modding Oblivion right now. Sure, I'm releasing this content update and will continue to fix bugs but I don't feel like starting up another project.

I do have a http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=1063054&view=findpost&p=15444982 planned for TES V though. But TES V is still quite some time away so we'll have to see if I even have the time at that point.

Plus, I actually don't have Shivering Isles yet. I know, blasphemy. :P

But I should get it at some point.

And Merry Christmas to all of you! I don't have any presents, but here's more or less the current changelog of V2.0:

2.0:

-NEW QUESTS: 'Sounds of Sweetest Harmony', 'Off the record', 'Out of Control', 'A Dyeing Wish', 'Rich Pickings',
'Killing the Queen', 'Party Time', 'The Cluttermonkeys', 'Death and the Maiden'.

General:

-Rumours added by the mod will no longer be told in the Shivering Isles.
-The Documents quest is no longer journal entry based (with one exception), to avoid the issue that the quest stays open forever if people
are unable to find all documents.
-The Card of Wonders quest is now better connected with the Chest of Wonders quest: It is now clearer what the cards are for.
-Added the first journal entry for the Aleswell quest which mysteriously disappeared...
-Added the possibility to refuse many of the miscellaneous quests.
-NPC Optimisation: Unimportant A.I. schedules are no longer processed in the background if the player isn't there to see it. May prevent what is known as 'A.I. overload'.
-Further optimized the script that runs the first time a save file is loaded with this mod active.

Main Quest:

-Sneezy will now return to his original position in front of the door if he's ever distracted by nearby hostile creatures.
-Problem fixed with Doc staying at Bawn instead of moving to the new house when he is supposed to.
-Fixed a problem where Tin Man would not recognise that the captain is dead.
-Made sure that every time Ilplanderin 'moves' to a new location he can no longer be found in his previous location.
-The Daedra Zoo can now be visited at any time.

Miscellaneous:

-Many 'Baby Sitting' quest improvements. Better directions, Jhared Strongblade is stronger and will also 'repair' his weapon and armor after each dungeon you clear with him.
-Fixed a problem with opening a chest in Whitmond Farm.
-Fixed the broken conversation at the end of the On The Waterfront quest if the player decides to use Isleif's inscription for the grave.
-Removed a duplicate journal entry in the Pass the Bottle quest.
-Removed the unnecessary extra map marker at Cadlew Priory.
-Moved a letter related to Stantus Varrid slightly so that it is no longer covered by a book for people using OOO.
-Removed the pointless nameless naked Dark Elf near Kragenir's Tower.
-Added better directions at the start of The One Ring.
