Kudos to the Lore Buffs

You guys always give me something good and somewhat stimulating to read. I can just imagine all of you in the Arcane University, sitting in a circle and arguing over whether or not the dragon is going to break again.

Thanks a lot!

Aww....how tingly that makes me feel on the inside.

Although I think we'd probably stick to a http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Astion/TheElderScrolls/TheDragonBreak/theimperiallibrary04.jpg instead of the Arcane University.

in the Imperial City. enter through the main gate, turn right when you get to the giant statue of the son of Kyne, past the topiary of Tiber Septim, right across the marble and gold bridge at your left. if you reach the eastern sun-crown of the palace you've gone too far.

Aww, we wouldn't want to be jumping on the bandwagon now would we? It's cool to not do what is popular!

Time doesnt exactly fall apart--- causality does. Related, but not the same thing. Jills patch up the causality chain which helps the universe make sense using time. Time is just a required component for energy to cause action.

Causality violation just allows action to happen before energy is applied. :D

As for myself, I would be conducting mythopoeic experiments on imagination and dreams. Specifically, a specialized field of study in how to physically manifest a thought construct from within the mind, using magicka/creatia of a spell.

It would be like mysticism and conjuration rolled into one. It would likely be banned by the elder council though.

I would say I'm still an apprentice at the lore business. I don't think I could imagine Sheogorath and Vivec and everyone all just arguing at the library though.

Tedders + MK in the same room, ON TAMRIEL would result in dangerous changes in reality. I dont feel it is sheer coincidence that there are TWO of them. ;)

Also, given that it is a world of their mutual creation, their presence alone would be upsetting. So, having them arguing inside the imperial library would make the bellicose ball scenario seem like a harmless carnival ride.

Dagon attempts a hostile takeover of mundus? Ain't got NOTHIN' on what an uncensored argument between those two would have in terms of destructive + Meta-creative potential.

Where do the "Seamen" fit in?

Sorry, had to crack a Sailor joke, being a Sailor and all. :embarrass:

Anyway, I don't think a debate between Tedders and MK would really cause that much damage to reality as we know it. MK deals in the crazy metaphysical stuff, and Tedders deals more with the setting and cultural stuff. They both have very different lore "specializations," if you will, so having a debate between them on one topic or the other would be pointless.

And besides, MK's alter ego is Vehk; Tedder's alter egos are a bunch of nerdy authors. Should the argument get physical, they wouldn't stand a chance.

And I do mean physical, knowing Vivec. Nyuck nyuck nyuck.

Actually, I will extend my own thanks to the Lore Buffs. **ahem** Proweler, nalion, Luagar2, Albides, AstionM, adventurous putty, weird, word merchant, paw-prints, brian s...and countless others. As a fan fic writer you guys have always been there to bump heads with me when I thought I knew something, and it turned out I didnt, I feel that I know more lore then before, but the joy is that there is always more to learn.

One of these days Im going to have to write a "Lore for Dummies' if there isnt already.

Chapter One: What is Sithis?Firstly, get it through your thick skull that Sithis is not the God of Death! The Dark Brotherhood are psychopaths that murder lore as well as people!NIRN. Nirn is the plane of our existence. In the language of the et'ada, that is, the spirits that became Aedra, and Daedra, the Ehlnofex, means ARENA. Nirn is the interplay of the opposing primordial forces Anu and Padomay, or Anuiel and SITHIS. Anu is life, infinite energy abudance. Anu is the sum of all limitlessness.Infinite essentially. Sithis is entropy, ending, death. Sithis is the sum of al limitation. Nothing essentially. Yet it does exist.I still dont understand! If you lived forever, your life would be completely Anuic in nature. If you never existed, your non-life would be comepletely Padomaic in nature. But you dont live forever, your life-spans sum, is the interplay of Anuiel and Sithis, you exist but not forever. But that sounds like the Dark Brotherhood! They said....**SLAP**Just because you kill someone, doesnt make Sithis stronger!

Of course, Im probably wrong about that too......

I dunno why you'd write that when the intro of the Monomyth covers it quite nicely. Sithis is just the name for a concept that describes half of what the Aurbis is made off. There are plenty of other words that describe these two components as well and each description varies slightly, you could compare them life and death and or to growth and decay or something else but that doesn't quite cover it because it's that and more, it's half of existence.

Though what you really want to explain is how the name Sithis ended up as the god of death with the Dark Brotherhood. That's where people are getting their idea's from afterall. Can't really blame them, but certainly can point them in the right direction.

I couldnt wrap my mind around what sithis was when everyone kept telling me "No hes not Death! Hes limitation!" I just needed a point of reference before I figured it out. Im the type who despite being philosophical, needs the book for Dummies. Was my description there correct?

Thus was born Sithis, who was the sum of all the limitations Anuiel would utilize to ponder himself. - Heart of the World

Sithis is limitation by the Altmer.

Sithis sundered the nothing and mutated the parts, fashioning from them a myriad of possibilities. - Sithis

Sithis is action by the Dunmer.

The Order was founded and organized to divine Padomay's[PSJJJJ] eternal and ever-changing mystery. "Sithis" is a corruption of "Psijii" which, in turn, was a derivation of the high concept PSJJJJ.

Sithis is an ever-changing mystery by the Psijic Order.

How does one best describe our Dread Father? Imagine a perfect, cloudless midnight, cold as winter ice and shrouded in shadow. That is Sithis. - Lucian Lachance

Sithis is a fridge with the door closed by Lucian.

Your description is right to a certain extend. You described each of these in part, but as I said before these are just descriptions for half the half of existence that isn't the other half of it. In essence, Sithis and Anuiel are -and I finally found the word for it- ineffable.

You mean, in a "is the light still on with the door closed" - kind of sense, or in the mere sense of that you do not know what the hell is going on in there? ;)
