Hi, I am playing Oblivion on the PC and in the course of following the main storyline - I can't seem to pass through to Oblivion.
I can go through the portal but I just come right out to the gate to Kvatch.
I though maybe my skill level wasn't high enough so I did a bunch of side quests and increased my level but I still cannot seem to reach the Oblivion plane.
Am I missing something obvious here or is this some kind of glitch?
I have searched the forums and downloaded a patch but I can't find any reference to this problem and the patch didn't have an effect.
Please help!

The gate is a "door." You activate it like any other door.

I would be willing to bet that 95% of players, on their first attempt, went running into that flaming circle and popped out the other side.

And I am one of them!

Yep, me too. I had to ask my other half how to get into the Oblivion Gate. She was playing on her computer right beside me and I had seen her do it with no problem only a half hour earlier. "You activate it, you moron," she sighed. "God, I can't believe I actually live with someone so stupid." Those were her exact words. True story.

I was that 5% who walked AROUND the gate, jumped over that wall and though hmss kvatch gate??? why kill the oblivion gate if I can enter now:)
after discovering that stupid super-marius will not follow I walked back and just clicked the portal;)

Yeah I went through it and went in Kvatch and not Oblivion. So I exited Kvatch then I realised I saw the icon so it activates like a door. So I am in the 95% then.

I walked through it first time as well. I was really confused until I noticed the little icon appear.

I think I just automatically assumed you had to activate it.

Same, When I ran in the oblivion gate and came on the other side facing the Kvatch door, I thought I was in Oblivion xD
