Kvatch Rebuilt vs. Kvatch Aftermath

Post » Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:29 am

After spending an hour or two finding some good Kvatch mods, these seem like the two main ones. From their descriptions, the only difference seems to be the presence of an arena.
Both let you become count, both rebuild the city etc. rtc.

I would just download both, but the Aftermath download needs a file that is about 200mb, and my internet connection has been cutting off and on all day due to thunderstorms. Downloadig that would take ages :(

So BGSF, which do you like?

I have to admit I've only played Rebuilt - I don't like the extra stuff Aftermath has. The main thing with Rebuilt is that you don't have to become count if you don't want to, and I'd rather not. The arena stuff is a bit silly, imho, but the end results of a rebuilt Kvatch are very well done. Rebuilt doesn't have voice acting, which I actually consider a bonus, because I've found more often than not, it's pretty bad. You need proper equipment and environment to do it well. Rebuilt doesn't go overboard. It adds a few npc's, but mostly simply restores what's there. There is a new lead developer for KR and he promises an update once he's done the add-on - I think it's called Kvatch Underground Expansion.

Rebuilt.

Aftermath requires too many secondary resource files to justify the download.

Wow, that's funny - I did a poll like this a while back when I was try to decide between the two. I eventually settled on Kvatch Rebuilt b/c I think there was an immersion-breaking dialog with a certain Khajiit in Aftermath (though KA is (fully?) voiced I believe, whereas KR is not.) There may have been some other factors in my decision, but can't recall now. To be fair, though, since I haven't tried both I don't think I'll vote. They both seemed like good mods and I think I was kinda torn on my choice in the end.

I think Arthmoor and andalaybay hit the nail on the head. Aftermath had alot of extra stuff involved with it. It looks pretty cool and I like the whole voice thing (except for that one NPC dialogue to set up the mod options) but I like to keep my mods as simple, clean and concise as possible. Many mods that try to do everything result in epic compatibility FAILure. If you do an inn mod, keep it an Inn mod and don't add 20 new playable races, for example. And don't make it require everything from COBL to Wrye Bash + BAIN + OBSE&all plugins, OBGE, Qarls latest texture pack + FCOM, for another example. That's my take on it.
