Labyrinthian and Glamorill

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 1:02 am

I'm wondering, how much of the lore behind them will remain intact, with a hypothetical TESV: SKYRIM in the works? The name Glamorill is due for an overhaul, as I can't imagine the mer assigning such a smooth, musical name to the 'secret of life'. That the secret of life had once been in the hands of the Falmer, but they were supposedly obliterated over the course of multiple battles, is something I find too ironic. The whereabouts of "Glamorill" would seem to have been lost, after the topple of the northern elves, just as the rest of their culture had been lost.
Shalidor would construct the maze much later. This makes me wonder if Shalidor's research still exists, possibly via oral record. I'm thinking the knight order fighting the Mages Guild in Arena keeps his research alive, if anyone does. I havn't played Arena, so if this isn't the case, please say so. Its also obvious Arena's quest to find Labyrinthian didn't happen quite the way we remember, that is for one detail, the Mages Guild did not interpret an elder scroll to find the location of the maze. It was likely some stolen ledgend of the knights they pried from a captive by use of mysticism. The Nordic MG is a lot more honest with itself, it seems... I guess only time will answer my question, but its something to discuss, anyway.

I'm not entirely certain I know what you're asking, but I'll just add my two cents and be done with it:

The Rourken-Shalidor connection does add an interesting plot hook that could be interesting if developed.

As for Glamorill: who says that the Falmer had to have it? Couldn't it be just as concievable that Shalidor stole it from elsewhere?

And lastly, I invoke the "Arena's canon ain't exactly canon, even if its all we have to go on" rule of thumb, because it needs to be said and will get said at some point in this discussion.

I was just asking what people thought the likelyhood was between a)possible overhaul or b)only a fine tweaking. Sorry for the messy wording.

The "elves" named it, the "elves" were in the skyrim first, Shalidor came much later. I assumed the elves kept it a secret, and it was Shalidor who unearthed it years later. If it was the Falmer who named it, that is. It may have been the Dwemer. Either way, my point was Glamorill is a terrible name :spotted owl:

"Glamoril" sounds very 'spiritual'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_Single_Malts

I'll have to avoid the forum for a few months for the conflagration of hate posts to die down.
