Lack of attention

Post » Tue Apr 13, 2010 5:21 pm

The game seems to be generating a lot of underground buzz but not enough lime-light buzz, if you know what i mean. I feel like gamespy and gamespot are dropping the ball by not having a preview of the game already to inform gamers about the game. It's annoying -_-

Well it is a new IP that's still at least 2-4 months away. They might have had a preview for it by now if it wasn't christmas season with so many big budget sequals coming out

Once it comes out, I have no doubt that it will spread by word of mouth quite easily.

I definately think this will happen, too. If, of course, BRINK will release as a solid game without major flaws like the Blops release had.

It definetly has some buzz around. Too bad it's mostly "Oh, that Mirror's Edge game".
Anyway, before the release I hope that it will skyrocket. They should definetly just make tons and tons of trailers and videos for it before release like say Mass Effect 2.

Do we have a set release date yet even? Gamespot normally does their previews about a few days to a week before the release. The game also has to be extremely highly anticipated for them to make a Preview. What I dont get is why they made the dev diarys so long before the game is out.

Yeah they made the Dev Diaries for Brink before the Dev Diaries for New Vegas. Like a few months before.

I would assume they started making the dev diaries before Brink got delayed for 6 months for the second time, in which case it would have been timed correctly for the old release.

To me BRINK has all the makeings of a sleeper: a good game that gains users out of a devoted- yet unpleaseable fanbase that spreads word of the awesome that is our game.
We will undergo our stories in the ARK content that we were the trailblazers and the hardcoe of those whom play brink.
We will make friends, defeat hostiles and will undoubtidly mute our fair share of trolls, Then our true purpose will present itself.
The word of mouth about the quality of gameplay will attract our newest generation: the casual gamers.
Going about our daily cycle we will begin to see "This would be better if-" and "Add 'This' or you loose a player" crop up like rabbits in a lush predator free field.
They will try to change the game- our game, to make it conform to their individual notions of 'Good'. The community as a whole must rise up as a whole to combat these plans.
They will try to change BRINK
...Let them try

But seriously though im sure it should do fine. I've survived the loss of APB, and im sure we can make it through this.

You make it sound like they're gonna turn the release of Brink into a movie

We have those, their called "In-game cinematics" ;)
becides im not talking about the release, im talking about weeks- months maby after the games released.
We will delve into the darkness known as the common man, and if we don't keep our torches lit... we will surely be eaten by the grues.

First of all, I was making a joke. I understood what you were saying, was just commenting on how dramatic you were making it sound.

Secondly, I've never seen an in-game cinematic that chronicled the actual release of a game and the following months.

Thirdly...It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

My concern is that the game won't get good reviews as a direct result of not getting hyped attention before it's release. Can any of you name a highly anticipated game that received mediocre reviews? That's probably because there are none. Not saying Brink should get five stars off the bat, but it should get a good shot at a fair review. I just remember hanging around the Shadowrun forums before the game's release and all the buzz the game had built up...but it was mostly just around the Shadowrun forum.. Gamespy had done a preview a couple of months before the game's release, and that was about it. Once the game was released, its was (in my opinion) overly criticized and not given it's proper respects in blending in RPG elements into a fast-paced FPS, which it did so well.

Though, a good difference to note in Bethseda's and Splash Damage's marketing is that they're creating avenues for game to receive exposure through the dev diaries and game expos. If i recall correctly, Fasa or Microsoft did little to get the word out on their game.

Considering the fact that journalists and fans alike are amazed with the demo, and its not even fully polished yet, I should imagine that it will get good review scores, if not amazing scores.

So what would you feature about a game where there has been absolutely no new bunch of information released for months?

Lack of attention can be a good thing. Personally, I want this game to fly under COD [censored] radar because I don't want a flood of threads on here suggesting killstreaks, pop up points, ridiculous perks, prestige or any other tired COD gimmick in order to "sell more copies" and make it more "popular".

You'd be surprised how much Cod Stuff they already proposed here on the forums.
