Lack of gun variety.

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 4:26 pm

It plainly svcks. Sure you can mod them, but it still doesn't make up for the fact that there's is one submachine gun, two shotguns, one assault rifle/LMG, two pistols, two rifles and all that pipe crap. After New Vegas with its vast arsenal this seems like a huge letdown :(

Modders of course will put out lots of cool guns, but they will be severely gimped by lack of animations - there's nothing for pump action shotgun or repeating rifles. Most of all I don't understand why Beth is this lazy. They take care to make this enormous game, but cant be arsed to make few extra meshes and skins.

Think of it from a design perspective, instead of 5 pistols with each one sequentially better than the last and using their own ammo supply they went with a small number of pistols that can be modded to keep pace with a level based system. Pipe weapons can be pistols or rifles, semi, full auto, bolt action and calibers can be switched around. the 10mm pistol can be switched up to a full auto submachine gun. It makes sense to not throw in endlesssly redundant weapon classes that fill the same role as what already exists. the modification system wouldnt make much sense either if it was "spend resources to upgrade my 10MM or just use the .45 i found off a raider"

Also, New Vegas only had that scope of weapons after the expansions added them in. expansions such as one which was just a dedicated weapon arsenal dump.

you are missing quite a few guns in your list. Log some more hours into the game, and update then. You have not seen all of them. Mabe half

I don't think so. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_weapons

Ok, I haven't seen combat rifle yet, but the rest is pitiful and just versions of the same. Not to mention that combat shotgun and assault rifle unmodded look the same. I want my pump action shotgun and Colt 1911 which is featured on in game Guns and Bullets magazine. I was certain it will be in game. How can anyone release the game theses days with just 2 non junk pistols?

Just from top of my head: .44 revolver, .45 pipe revolver, bolt action pistol, 10mm pistol, laser pistol, plasma pistol, institute pistol (OK I included revolvers but still...), hunting rifle, revolver rifle, laser rifle, bolt action rifle, pipe rifle, plasma rifle, institute rifle, assault rifle, combat rifle, railway rifle, Gauss rifle...

And that's not complete list.

The thing about weapon variety that bugs me the most is that pipe pistols are freaking everywhere! And aren't they supposed to be post-war improvised weaponry? So why the hell do pre-war skeletons, even military dressed individuals, and every office safe in the game have a pipe pistol??

Makes sense. It's 200 years after end of civilization.

Not all skeletons are pre war and military skeletons tend to have 10mm pistols (one in Concord hotel room comes to mind). For containers answer of course is level scaled, random container content.

I assumed that the paranoia at the time of the apocalypse was so massive that home made firearms were a hugely popular hobby. Also, inflation being as insane as it seemed, perhaps professionally manufactured firearms were out of reach of most people? Remember prices were so bad that a magazine cost 30-40 dollars based on the cover prices seen in game. The PC is in a family with a lawyer and a military veteran and they are only in a 2 bed/1 bath home. There were riots over scarcity on all kinds of things.

dude, did you even look at that list? You mention like 8 weapons, and the wiki list is like 50 weapons.........You really need to take a close look at your counting skills. Also, the game is what, 2 weeks old? Wikis are made by the players. I have 3 guns, that i can think of, that are not on that list.........

When I said guns I wasn't really thinking about old rusty pipes (which all look the same) or silly designs like Junk Jet or Railway rifle. I meant Guns guns. Last Fallout had lots of them and while gimmicks like Railway rifle is nice to play around it gets old fast. Guns are exactly as many as I said - couple of pistols and couple of rifles.

couple of ea? I wont do the whole list of every style of gun, as its soooooo long, but hear is the "couple" pistols that have been found in the game. Few are "pipe" pistols

key words "have been found so far" I know there is a gauss pistol, but not confermed yet

.44 pistol

10 mm pistol

308 pipe pistol

38 pipe pistol

45 pipe pistol

institute pistol

laser pistol

plasma pistol

gamma pistol

alien blaster

and those are just the base ones, not to mention the thousands of combinations threw mods, the legendary counterparts, and the "silly" designs as you call them.

Most of these weapons are level based. As in, you don't see them until you reach a specific level. And new vegas didn't have that many with the base game. The expansions added twice as many as the base game had, and the same will happen with this one too. Not to mention mods.

Fallout 4 has the most weapons/combinations as any other fallout. But some people will never be happy........*tear*

Please do enlighten us as to how you would add more firearms while maintaining the customization system.

I don't see how that is relevant. You just add a gun and then its custom parts. I'm sure modders will demonstrate that it is completely doable as soon as modding tools are realised.

Base New Vegas wasn't extremely overwhelming either. Then we got GRA and all the weapons from DLC. I wouldn't be too worried

I am aokay with the gun variety; the modding system makes it virtually unlimited in my mind. And that "pipe crap" can be pretty damn good; I have a silenced .38 that spews utter rapid death.

Not counting energy weapons because those are not guns and pipe crap it's exactly 2 - 10mm and 44. revolver and their variants which all look the same. I dont give a rats ass if my 44. magnum is legendary - I want a gun that looks and feels different.

New Vegas had:

10mm pistol

9mm pistol

Maria (unique 9mm looked different)

357.revolver

Lucky (unique 357. looked different)

44.magnum

Mysterious Magnum (unique .44 looked different)

556.pistol (Fallout classic, shame that this game don't have it)

That gun (unique 556 - different look)

Silenced 22.pistol

12.7mm pistol

Hunting revolver

Its crapload more then Fallout 4. Not mention lever action rifles, pump/single shot double shot/combat shotguns, rifles, assault rifles machine guns, sub machine guns, a freakin M1 Garand and many more added with DLC.

It's not unlimited. You just get the best mods ASAP and forget the rest, so basically you use the same few guns with the same few mods. Pipe crap while interesting concept is crap because one would think that before making a firearm someone would bother to polish of the rust from the said pipes. And why do you need a nail in a side of a scope? Those weapons look way more crappier then they should.

You're also talking about a game Bethesda didn't make. A lot of things Obsidian did are not in 4. Would I like more guns, sure. Am I satisfied right now, yes. We don't know what their plans are for adding weapons. But as mentioned, there is an added difficulty/time consuming aspect of modding weapons now. I think most people are also thinking that even consoles will support added guns for player made mods, so everyone will likely be happy on that end.

While I did enjoy adding the FOOK2 mod to my Fallout 3, and having sixty-bazillion "real world" guns to collect (and then only use a handful that had decent performance) that doesn't mean that there aren't a wide variety of guns to play with in FO4. As long as you're not artificially limiting your definition of "gun" to "just ones I like".

(I see you haven't found the Deliverer yet, a unique silenced 10mm pistol that looks more like a 9mm.)

Its not the lack of guns....its the lack of ammo types.

that ur opinion. No meter what u always tent to gravitated to the more powerful ones, something i been liking about Fo4 is that each type of weapons it have their own pros and cons so u can choose a Fast shoot small gun like the 10mm or a slow shot gun like the 38. small gun. One do HUGE dmg and shoot slow, and the other do normal dmg and shoot fast.

Same go for combat sniping rifle and the Hunting Sniper rifle.

I like to be able to just play different something i could never do on NV bc u always end with the 3 more powerful guns on the game.

Sooooo, basically we are only counting the guns that you like, not including everything else in the game that you dont like...........With that wack mindset, then ya, there is only a couple guns in the game........my god, you want bethesta to call you as well when they make the next fallout? That way they can get in all the guns you prefer.

And did you just really say that energy weapons are not guns!?! then what are they, toasters?

FYI there is like 8 billion other people on this planet besides you, if you were not aware. Your thought process seems to lead to you having the "im the only person on the planet" syndrome. But its probably more like the "im 15 years old" syndrome

Your post could be summed as "there is a pistol".

In theory yes but in practice no. Borderlands has a ton of weapons but the actual gun variety is nowhere near games like unreal tournament.

Pretty much all weapons in fo4 fill the same role which is "basic gun". The gun you use for 80% of all combat engagements because it kill most enemies in 3-6 hits, suits to short-medium range and is easy to use. There are very few weapons which break this mould (eg. fatman) and those weapons are mainly just gimmicks.
