Lack of Motivation playing after the end of F3?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2010 6:42 pm

I see the finite ending for Fallout New Vegas to be perfect since after beating the story in Broken Steel I didn't have much motivation to play anymore. This isn't a poll about whether New Vegas should have a definite ending or not but rather how did you feel or would you feel about playing after the main story(s) ended?

It all depends, sometimes I want to play in the land as the hero, or schmuck, after the main quest. Sometimes I am done after the MQ. Sometimes I ignore the MQ. Having the game end after the MQ limits my choices.

Now, I have not seen the story, nor care too until I play it. So, it could make perfect sense as to why the game ends. Then, if I want to bop around, I will just ignore the MQ or parts of it. Hopefully, when I ignore the MQ the game is set up so that it can be enjoyed with out tatters of the MQ getting in the way making me feel guilty for not saving the princess.

Fallout 3 discussion, and if you had a pc, you could get mods, if you had a console, you were boned.

This is why I waited to finish Broken Steel until I was done with every other lil thing including other DLC on the disk.

It'll be the same for me and the main quest in New Vegas. I'll keep the final quests open to have as a nice end goal to keep in mind.

Well, yeah. Considering that by the time I'm done with Broken Steel, I've been just about everywhere and done all the quests I know exists so there isn't much to do but to go scavenging. The thing is, I make sure (or as sure I reasonably can be) to try and find all the quests, get the very best equipment the game has to offer etc when the time for the grand finale comes. Considering that, what is there left to do? Thus, when Broken steel is finished, I'll usually take my character home to Megatron, make a savegame just in case and then quit right there...

after you beat Broken Steel and the other DLCs then yeah, definitely. You can still go around collecting cameras and culling supermutants, but just shooting stuff gets old fast without a story or quest to hold your interest.

No. First time I played (no BS yet), I "finished" the game after ~25 hours. Played that character another 50+. And I played 5 other characters since then (once all the way to the end of BS, lv29 when I stopped). And in every single game, I've run into things that I hadn't seen with previous characters. There's always something new to see over the next hill, who cares about the plotline? :)

Some of the motivation. Mainly because I'd already completed all the other named side quests so there wasn't much left to do but aimless exploring (which brought a couple of surprises)

No, being able to roam around the world is just too much fun.

If I get to the point where I've beaten every quest and explored literally every location, it might get a little boring. However, that's what mods are for; I anticipate that if that day ever arrives I'll boot up Enclave Commander and Increased Increased spawns and have me a good old-fashioned war.

Making videos reinvigorated me to play after the Main Quest. Though not all the time. It really just depends on the character really. They all evolve on their own, some never see the Dc interior. Others live there.

I've started a playthrough where I'm trying to avoid anything and everything other than the main quest, and do all the side quests/ other DLC etc after that. I'm hoping that will keep my motivation up for a bit :)

It is fun to explore the world, but after I finish the MQ and specially if I do it when I reach the level cap then I don't feel very motivated to keep going on, even if there is still a lot to explore. I just miss the "ka-ching" sound... It is embarrassing, but I admit it. :blush2:

I kept playing after the MQ. The first time I beat Broken Steel I was far from done playing because I still had PL and MZ to explore. I think I explored everything I had missed and only really got bored once my character was lvl 30 and done with all the add-ons. I still get bored when my character hits the level cap...

For me the MQ is just the beginning!

Once all that is out of the way, I get to the real fun, the exploring etc. I use the MQ to get decent gear, and make myself established enough to not be on the brink of death everytime I leave a settlement.

I usually pick up a follower and what not so I can really roam the wastes care-free and to my liking. MQ goes down first. But then again, I have Broken Steel added, so it's not the same as no DLC's.

I consider Broken Steel a separate questline, as LW's obligation to PP is done. (As was Dr. Li's) so I just leave the Citadel after waking up. I come back eventually, but after a really long time.

I never pay too much attention to the main quest. I do the freeroam thing and when I feel myself getting a bit bored I progress through the mainquest far enough for the Enclave to start showing up, then it's back to exploring.

I would have loved if there hadn't been a main quest at all, only unmarked quests. And subtle changes taking place in the world depending on what you do. I don't need to be some kind of superhero deciding the fate of everybody. Experiencing a living, breathing world is the most fun part of the game for me.

saying that, I didn't discover Oasis until well after the end of Broken Steel AND the other DLCs, and that's only because I came across some Wastelanders who told me about it. And I only discovered Arlington Cemetery after reading about it in the wiki (and I had played the game for over 100 hours). So just because you've finished the game, doesn't mean the game is over, not by a long shot.

I plan on finishing New Vegas questline last, and do all the exploring first. Lesson learned :spotted owl:

I have finished the MQ and that character is still kicking. He still has all of the DLC quests to finish, currently working on Point Lookout. That being said, I have started a new character with heavy emphasis on role playing. I have not downloaded any mods yet, so I am playing realism on the honor system. This character eats, drinks, sleeps, and acts like ammo has weight by restricting him to carrying 4x a weapon's capacity max. He is also using small guns, homemade weapons, and explosives only (no energy weapons or bug guns). I would like to find mods that require sleep, food, and water, one that gives ammo weight, and a portable bedroll.
