Lack of News and "Confirmed details".

Post » Fri Jan 01, 2010 10:31 am

Disregarding that we are looking forward to some new gameplay footage in June from E3, but what is it with interviewers?

They ask stuff that we mainly already know or very small details that really isn't that important, also we hardly ever hear about some ingame details. I understand that they aren't trying to spoil it but if it's such a big game they should have plenty of info to give us without spoiling it.

i'm just getting a bit annoyed when i see a new interview video and i have all my hopes up, and they ask stuff that everyone has asked and answered many times before.

No flamming please.

Well, what can you (we) do? Either try to keep the game off your mind until the juicy details are reveiled, or be content to speculate with the rest of us.

I sometimes feel like Todd talks a lot without actually saying much.

I don't know if you know this or not, but you do know that they go over what question they can ask them before the interview?

Bethesda flaunts but doesn't really give it up.

There's nothing we really can do i suppose. But i made this to share my opinion about it, maybe it might get noticed (highly doubt though).

It's a skill.

I personally prefer to avoid all the pre-release info that gets thrown around so that there is that much more for me to find out when I get the game. Also speculation rather than confirmation is more fun and brings the community, provided its a good one, together.

They don't ask questions for us that hang out in the Skyrim forum, they ask questions for their audience. And the vast majority of their audience consist of people that don't really know anything about Skyrim.

Here on the forums, we scour every single news article for juicy bits of new information, but the sad fact is that Todd does those interviews for the causal TES community. Those that are not up to date on every announced Skyrim feature.

EDIT: Darn ninja owl :spotted owl:

Think about how much we know about the game already. There is still a ton more to know about the game, but we're all just waiting for more information because we love the hype for games we love to play (It's a good thing, in my opinion).

Also, the prospects for REALLY new info before E3 are bleak. Beth Blog better cover it like a rugby team on a football.

We have received plenty of information. What more do you need? We've been told about the Dragon shouts, perks and how they work, dungeons, creatures, AI, the menus, finishing moves, towns, jobs, and so much more stuff its absolutely ridiculous to attempt to list . We don't need to know half of the stuff that they already told us. It seems like some people will never be satisfied until the know every single detail about the game.

You need to understand this, they aren't supposed to release information. What they are doing is simply called marketing. They are releasing bits and pieces attracting people like us to frequent these forums and try to piece them together. Do you know how easy it would be for them to go into a thread and answer every question? If that's what they wanted to do they would hire a few people to sit on the forums all day and answer our craziest questions. But instead they choose to watch and let us speculate. Why? Because were talking about the game. They want us talking about it, they want us thinking about it, they want us to spent 2+ threads anolyzing 5 seconds of leaked gameplay footage. How many threads have their been about spears? You see one almost everyday. Bethesda could just say yes there are going to be spears. But that would stop all the speculation about spears and thats 2-3 threads, or posters that will no longer find the need to provide traffic to the site. See where I'm going? They don't release news frequently because it's the speculation that's getting us interested and pumped up for November 11th. It is May right now, November is half a year away, how else do you expect them to keep our attention until then? It's simple, they answer a few questions in an interview every few weeks, we dissect it for months. It's not just their job to trickle information to us, but also to get us interested and excited for the game.

Blame the industry and metacritic.

Because games have become more business oriented they have to be more sensitive to previews and pre-release copies for reviewers. A handful of bad reviews and stock prices plummet even before the game is released.

ZeniMax and Bethesda are at least trying to keep the focus on quality games rather than pure business.
Look at homefront - it got slammed by reviews before it was released and resulted in investors selling up their shares in the developer. Once it was released it still sold quite well though.

Even Mass Effect 3 has been delayed from pressure to appeal to a wider audience. Hopefully EA doesn't ruin it by trying to make a CoD. =/

I don't blame Bethesda for being cautious. As long as they have making a quality game their priority they can show me as little or as much as they like. Though obviously I'd like to see more of the fantastic game. :)

By giving out the same information in many places, you make that information available to more people. Also, it makes it easier to find reliable sources of information. I would sooner trust a direct report from someone who interviews Todd Howard than a report of a report of a report (as we often get in these forums). I would rather not have to sort through dozens of reports of reports to find the single first-hand report.

100% This!

We already have a ton of info about the game already. We should count ourselves lucky that we are getting more info next month. If they gave it all out at once it would be boring by the time the game is released, there would be little interest. Also they do want us to discuss and speculate to help them with the development of the game, because they might see a new idea or something they could implement easily which the fan base want.

Indeed, it's too bad everyone wants to do an interview with Todd when he doesn't want to give up further information yet.

It almost sounds like some expect that the E3 won't give us any new info.. Optimism ftw.

This is exactly what I think as well and I haven't looked at all the video footage and read all that's been said. I would be quite happy if they didn't show or mention anything new between now and release. La la la la la...

Time to play some Oblivion and chill out. :obliviongate:

I like it this way. I don't want to be spoiled a lot, it'll make the first encouter with Skyrim even better. And I'm in love with the small details, like Salmon, rabbits, etc, etc.

They've given us more than enough information I think, they didn't even announce the game that long ago, and its beneficial for no one for them to just come out and spill all the details right from the get go. As a fan, I like the achingly slow divulgement of info on the game I'm looking for, since it builds up right to the end. The thing that ticks me off the most is when I see a game/movie trailer that essentially gives me all the information. Come on guys, the game is SIX months away...we'll get more information, hell the game was only announced 4 months ago. Some games are announced years before they ever see a trailer.
