Lack of Oblivion Gate Ruins?

Post » Fri Jan 31, 2014 12:02 am

I know it has been 200 years since the Oblivion crisis (terrible name for a historical event I must say... does not really give into the sheer omg of it)

But we know that the Gates opened all over Tamriel! The Argonians spear headed a campaign against Dagon (Via the hist being cool and telling them to), Summerset had some gates open that the Thalmor claim they closed (and ended the crisis themselves), and we know that it was world wide (although not sure if they appeared in Akavir, Atmora, etc)

Why was there not at least one Oblivion gate ruin in Skyrim? It would have been cool to see the remains of an Oblivion gate and would have been a great homage to IV. Heck they could have made a quest where it gets re opened by some necromancer and you have to close it.

Anyone have thoughts? Dont blame 11/11/11. Nothing of the sort even appeared in the game files.

There is an Oblivion gate in Skyrim.

It's called Solitude.

(in before michaelpk's comment of the same, that dastardly Imperial city) :D

While I agree that Solitude is hell.... would have been cool to have a gate in maybe... dawnstar (add onto the dagon quest) or mortha (wtf is in morthal)

There is something kind of like this in the game

Spoiler
Look under the College

Barring that, there are mods that add what you are looking for.

Maybe after the Oblivion crisis everyone got smart and destroyed them.

Are people still blaming 11/11/11?

I suppose the gates could only exist where the barriers were weak. They are ultimately extensions of Dagon, so, now the barriers are sealed, they've simply faded into nothing, or done as other Daedric artefacts do and drifted back into the realm they came from.

It's been 200 years. I imagine that any remaining gates would have been demolished.

It would have been cool to see some ruins. They were probably destroyed since Nords have a distrust of magic.

After the Oblivion MQ, there are multiple Oblivion gate ruins dotting the landscape.

It's been 200 years since then, so I imagine most everyone demolished them. Why would they want to keep up something that symbolized a horrific period in Tamriel that almost destroyed everyone?

It would be cool, but it's been 200 years. I imagine every Oblivion gate is taken care of and closed.

Or I'd say just about everyone wanted them destroyed for the sake of them being the Oblivion gates that had daedra swarming out of them and invading Tamriel.

My theory is since Oblivion Gates kinda did came out of the ground... They eventually went back underground, getting buried.
