Lakeview Manor ctd

Hey pals,

I'm brand spankin' new to the forums so please forgive my ignorance, but I have scoured the internet for a solution to my problem and cannot find anything that works.

Here's the deal: I've logged around 240 hours on a save in Skyrim and as such am not particularly surprised that it doesn't work as well as it used to. It crashes every now and then, and I've compensated by saving often. What concerns me is how buggy Lakeview Manor has become. I can no longer enter or exit the front door without the game crashing to desktop. The only way I can get into the house is through the side entrances from the additions I built, and even then if I spend too long in the entryway the game will ctd. Once inside, I can enter the cellar but cannot exit it again without another crash to desktop.

Two important things: one, I have no mods whatsoever and never had, and two, Lakeview is my prime location for depositing the items I hoard. One room I filled with a couple hundred animal pelts. This never gave me any problems. The entryway I filled with hundreds of jewels, jewelry, and soul gems. My third room for hoarding is the cellar, where I painstakingly paved the floor with hundreds of metal ingots. Realizing that my hoarding may be contributing to the problem, I attempted to reduce the clutter in my house in a move that would make my mother enormously proud. I completely cleared out my pelt room, leaving it empty. This had no effect and the game still crashes when I try to use the front door or leave the cellar. I then made the heartbreaking decision to clear my cellar of every last ingot, yet when I attempted to leave the cellar the game once more crashed. I have tried this several times. Even with an empty cellar, I can't leave and have to revert to an earlier save just to be able to play. I have no idea how far back this issue goes but do know that it is at least 15 hours of gameplay, which I am not willing to lose by playing a much, much earlier save.

A long search online told me that the answer for many has been to remove the workbenches in the house. I did so and found no difference. I tried removing the workbenches combined with moving excess stuff out of the house. Again, no difference. At this point I'm quite despondent and am hoping someone out there has a magical solution that will allow me to use my house, including the cellar, if only to remove my precious ingots from it.

So, you've been playing a single save, and overwriting it, for a long time? It's probably corrupted, unfortunately, and the answer, most likely, is to reload that earlier save.

And then get in the habit of making multiple saves.

Try to wait in another cell for 31 days. (in-game)

Then make a new save. Load that save, and try to get into Lakeview Manor from the front door.
