[WIP] Lancer armor

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 4:46 pm

I'm not really new to modeling in 3d, I've been modeling stuff for a few years now. It was part of my animation course but I fell in love with the modeling side of 3d rather then the animation. I'm a far better 2d animator then I am a 3d modeller at the moment.

Bethesdas models ar far more efficient then my modeling work, I was looking at the enclave helmet a few days ago and I was just in awe. they have some really class modelers on the bethesda team.

Hai Tyokio! I tried your titan power armor-mod - I have to commend you for your hard work! I just found one thing really annoying - the arms kept clipping with the "stomach"-front part of the armor - or maybe it's not supposed to work for females? :o

Don't be afraid to gloat on their forums. You and I both know that yours is 100 million times better. This might actually be in competition with the Advanced Power Armor MK II in which one I will wear more. I think it's great, and can't wait to give it a 10 on FO3nexus. :)

Bethesda may be good at models, but they do make their fatel errors at times :P For example, I personally hate the non-moving shoulderpads on both the regular T-4x whatever armors and the Tesla Enclave armor. The way the models work, they don't even touch the shoulders it seems. Also, there's my giant beef with the T-51b model. When you jump, the undermesh clips the cup plating. Also, the texture doesn't line up well on the back of the helmet and the legs have giant gaping holes where the legs meet the cup.

Overall they're good though. Those problems and a giant hole in the Laser rifle model make me sad though :<

I have a question though about your Lancer model though. What's the giant square on the butt?

Wow looking great! once the model is done, try to see if you can get somebody who can make a really nice hi-res texture for it (honestly the titan armor didnt have a great texture, sorry)

id like to see this become more than a mod that adds a discreet one set to the game, i hope to see it become a full mod that incorporates this into the elite enclave soldiers! id be happy to help work on it if you want to make a mod like that.

i will definitely be tracking this, ask for help if you need any :tops:

noticed in the readme you were having difficulty with dismemberment.

to my understanding this programme may assist.

Not much of an update here but I stuck it quickly into fallout to see what it was like and if anything needed changing.

Heres the result of that test

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/tyokio/IMAGE-2.jpg

I have ideas on how to free up som extra space for the UV map, I'm going to make the arms have their own Texture and I will also overlay duplicate meshes.

Wizard of thay: I will certainly give it a shot : D

linkesauge: yup I'll certainly give my permission for you to use the armour in the FOOK mod once I have this all complete.

nemetoad: thats just somethin I put on so it didnt make the design too top heavy, that was there to balence it out a little. I do admit it seems to stick out a bit so I'll see how I can solve that.

Progress has only been slow because I entered a competition over on deviant art to animate a 2d fighting game character. (if your interested in what that looks like you can see it here lol http://tyokio.deviantart.com/art/Dinner-Lady-Fighting-character-114542431 Its pretty interesting..). I also spent a little time animating the icon you see on the side there : D. I have about 6 days left to complete that though.

Two words: Freaking awesome!

I guess I need more words...I love it! It looks absolutely fantastic and is a definate download for me, it might be the single thing that makes me want to use power armor at all :D

maybe its just the angle, but the shoulders look kinda small in comparison to the head...otherwise it is pretty darn awesome.

Any idea if you're gonna make the player look bigger when wearing this armor?

Suggestion: Since Jexx classic Enclave Armor has an .esp that makes it or regular Enclave armor appear about 50/50, you should do it the 50/50 spawn thing with Telsa Armor. That way people can use both armor .esps...

That's absolutely gorgeous! I have a question though.
What about the Hands from the concept art? I suppose the gloves are a separate part from the main mesh.
Can you make them a "powerfist" of sorts?

Yeah, I agree witht eh shoulders; THey definitely should be bigger. The head is kinda...meh. I had thought this would turn out looking like a modernized FO2 PA, whatwith the head kinda into the shoulders. Butstill, great looking so far.

also...I'm looking for a texture project to work on if you're interested (I only have time for one at the moment, so it will come down to whoever asks me first :o)
