[WIP] Lancer armor

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 5:17 am

Going to make another armor but I'm not holding back on the poly count this time : D

If you havent seen it yet I was working on a mod which added an armor called "titan power armor" which can be seen here http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4143.

I still plan on working on a few things with that too, but I wand to keep up the modelling practise so I started a new armor which was requested by raptor1261992 on the nexus forum. This time I'm aiming at a much higher res model then before.

Here a screenshot of what I've done so far.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/tyokio/Armor.jpg

this is how it will end up (image provided by raptor1261992) which is a scan from the Fallout3 art book which came with the special edition of fallout 3

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff195/honkhonkthealien/armor2.jpg

Some parts of the model look low poly at the moment but it'll look better in the end.

This looks amazing,
I only have one imput.

Your titan armour I found impossible to use, I cant quite put my finger on what but it just seemed to not work properly.
It was like the arms sometimes went through the side and front of the chest which really broke it for me. :(

I understand that you wanted to make it "Big" and in order to do that it caused it to go sometimes do this however I pose a solution for this next project of yours.
As the armour in the concept-art book (Which I also own and was sad to see only 1 of the enclave armours make it into the game.)

Instead of making the armour "Bulky" your could make it normally and then implement it into the game so it makes your charicter scale 1.1 or 1.2 this would make it look very "bulky" but without the problem of the arms and chest ghostign through each other.

Anyway, looks great keep up the good work.

DJSDJDFJSDJD stop making awesome power armor. I hate power armor, and these are awesome and well done, but I don't want to wear something so huge on my dude. Make a really horrible power armor to get me back to normal :D.

i think i have to agree with the other guys here i like power armor, but i'd also like something a little more form fitting. sorta like iron man's armor from the film. or like the brotherhood armor. never the less you new model looks great so far. and where did you get that drawn pic from? if that is any indication its gonna be pretty [censored].

Bigger is better especially when it comes to fighting super mutants. You need some huge armor to counter balance the super mutants and mega super mutants being so much bigger than you and them hitting you with melee type weapons would technically maybe crush our small bodies. But again awesome job on the armor I can't wait for the lancer armor.

Hmmm my post does not say I dont want thick power armour, I would just rather he used scaling rather than making the armour so bulky it ghosts into each other in places when doing certain animations.

Also his pictures are from the Concept Art book released to people who pre-ordered the Survival Pack version of Fallout 3.
A huge amount of things in the concept book were not included in the game, its quite sad.

Looks even more promising than the Titan armor.

I think PsympleJester had a great idea, maybe making it so the player is automatically scaled to 1.2 when they put the armor on, that way it looks as power armor should... big.

I dunno there is always a ton of form fitting stuff in my opinion, a decent sets of power armor are needed. Yeah iron man and such are cool, but big armor is in the minority. Dont get me wrong form fitting is great too, but I like more variety, and hopefully others will learn from this.

To the modder, Yeah the titan armor was really cool, but for me the problem was the same as the enclaves, the arms felt too scraggly, it looks big really, but it feels off, kind of like it isnt really connected to the rest. The enclaves does that too . The result is that if you base it on that model, you'll get strange clipping (if you make big armor), and a weaker feel. currently your armor looks amazing, i dont know what you plan on doing with the arms, but this model seems like more form fitting arms could be really good, im not sure by the image, but it looks as if it can work.

anyways great work! love your stuff

Just curious tyokio, I noticed that you also labeled the other enclave armor T52a, are you making that one too?

Make the armor small, but scale the player up and make it sort of flatter, so you have a little higher player with wider arms, but the armor should be just wider by a bit and more could be done with the arms. Or am I wrong?

well that armor was labeled by raptor1261992 as an additional request, I'm not really sold on the design of that armor really but I may give it a shot. It would have to be after I've finished this model though because 2 armors would overwhelm me.

Holy. #*&$.

That is amazing! Screw the polycount! We want this as cool as you get it! :D (all in respect to you, of course...take your time...we want it to be good!).

This rivals the Adv. Power Armor Mk. I mod in the list of my most anticipated mods....

Depends whether you take performance into account and your target audience. If you are aiming at making items only usable by people with high end rigs or maybe only on a few NPCs wearing it on-screen at a time, you can knock yourself out with polygons and go crazy - but if you want your item to work smoothly on medium end rigs with 10+ NPCs wearing it at the same time in the same place, it's probably a good idea not to have more than twice the polygons of what the vanilla Enclave Power Armour is using for the final in-game model, as even that can bring some medium rigs to their knees. :P

QFT. I know using the enclave commander mod with MMM, having 10+ people in normal enclave armor can make my computer chug a little bit(erm, more than a lil bit sometimes xD). I know I would like to use this armor but if the poly count is too high I will avoid it simply to bypass the inevitable CTD(and potential BSOD) it would cause. Looks good though, either way I can't wait to see it finished.
