Land of Equestia (Idea. Requires a Team)

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 11:45 pm

I have an idea of a total conversion mod and I wanna do it on Morrowind, since Morrowind is the one I have on the Computer.

I can't do this alone, since I can't do everything, so I will need people to work with to do this. Alright?

Now.. About the world.. Equestia was really just a random name. I started from the word Quest then just added in a few letters and got Equestia. This isn't the official name as of now, so don't worry about that.

The next thing about this world will be the races. The main race will be Humans. They are what control pretty much most of the lands, so to say. There are two species of Humans, the main one actually call themselves Humans because they think they are the more dominate one. The other human race is called Gyptians, which originated on the south side of the world in the deserts. (They resemble Redguards while Humans resemble Bretons and Imperials). The Humans and Gyptians are connected under the Imperial Empire. The 3rd most common race are the Elves, which live in the lands of the west and prefer to stick to themselves. They are allied with the Imperial Empire but only Elves are allow in their main city; only a few acceptions. Elves are light feet and have super vision, making them powerful Elves and Light Combatants. They resemble a mix of Altmer and Bosmer. The 4th Race are Orcs. Orcs live across the lands in their own Strongholds. Majority of these Strongholds are friendly toward the others while some are hostile and doesn't trust any non-orc. The 5th Race are the Lizan, lizard race and resembles the Argonians (Skyrim's Version of them). The Lizan lives within the Marsh lands to the East, or use to be the Marsh Lands. They live under harsh conditions now ever since Vampires took control of the Eastern Lands and now the Marshes are more like the Dead Lands where sun never comes. Vampires are also the 6th race. The Vampires had made one deal with the Imperial Empire and that deal is they are allow to have one road to go thru their lands and they can safely use this road. They are not welcomed to be anywhere else or do anything else in the Eastern Lands, or they will declare war. However, the Imperial Empire had been secretly helping the Lizan by getting them out of the Eastern Lands and there are a few towns in the inner-ring that are for the Lizans.

Now.. A map.. (I svck at drawing so you can laugh all you want!) { http://jusey1.deviantart.com/art/Map-300458794 }
The Middle Island in this map (Dark Green) is the starting area of the world. This island is about half the size of Solstheim and only has one dock-town. It has one faction known as "The Adventure College" which is a special College for those who wants to become Adventurers. This is where the player will start at and will be the first area that the team will work on. The Blue Area is Water, if you hadn't figured that out! The 2nd area will be the Inner-Ring which is the Light Green area around the Island. The 3rd area will be the Light Green Area up North which will be where the Empire had originally started. 4th Area will be the Elven lands (Very light greenish color) to the west. The 5th area, down south, is the Desert. 6th will be the Land of the East, the Marsh or Dead Lands. The 7th Area will be the Frozen Wastelands far up North and will be the most dangerous and home to the main enemy. The 8th area will be the Outer Realm, a Demonic World where all the Demonic Beings come from. (Basicly Oblivion). Note: The Map doesn't cover the whole world. Also, the Brown Roads are made by the Empire while the Light Purple Roads on the West are Elven and the Dark Purple Roads on the East is the Lizan originally, and only, road but the Vampires took over it and is keep good watch on the road.

There is me idea... If you want to be part of the team then post and tell me about the work you do. I personally best are Interior Work (Like making Dungeons), Organizing things, and Placing everything together to make the game. So.. I need people who can create models, items, quests, and many other things... This is only if you want to work on this.

Now.. If you want to be a 'Donator' then take something, you've made for Morrowind and think can be useful for this, and turn it into a mod which doesn't require anything at all. (Basicly, open the Program and begin remaking it quickly without loading the Master Files. This way, we can use it and place it into the game easier.)

The final way you can help out if you can 'pull out' requested stuff from the actually Morrowind game. There are few things from the actually Morrowind Game we can use in this, like Iron and Steel Armor. I would rather do this then recreate the Armor, which will take more time.

I think that is all for now. Can't wait to get this started!

It's hard for anyone to commit to helping until we see proof of your ability as a competent modder, and that you're going to be a good team leader.
A project like this will take a few years to complete and a lot of organization, even with 20 people working on it.
Almost all people who enjoy modding have their own projects on the go, or are already working on one of the big project, like TR, Home of the Nords, etc... which also makes it hard to attract modders to a project.

Basically, you have to be prepared to do everything yourself. Hopefully people will join your team as you progress, and have a good amount of work to showcase your ideas and skills.
Good luck

Eh. I might just scrap this cause I ain't a Modeler or Texturer type of guy. I can do most of the other stuff easy on my own. I personally wanna work with a team on something for once, you know? To get the experience of working in a company, and all that sort of stuff.

Asking around can get small amounts of meshes made for your project sometimes. When I started my own mod project, I couldn't model or texture either. But small things like that never stopped me. Those are skills which you can acquire if you find you really need them to see your dream realized.

Well.. The thing is my dream is to be a Game Designer, or Scripter. Something along those lines. Not the Sound or Graphic Designer or Modeler. Etc. Eh.. Well.. If anyone is willing to donate their models, and such, that they don't mind me using then I can get this thing going.

~Edit~

Well.. Need a Magic-Base type of thing. Whenever i mess around with Magic, it never ends well...

Magic as in the Effects. Not the "SpellMaking" tab.

Well perhaps instead of starting something new, you should try helping work on one of the current land mass projects.

And yes, no one is willing to commit on anything large until good progress has been demonstrated.

Eh. I already started working on this. I'll see how things go with my thing.

~Edit~

Gonna need some sort of base that have Magic working and CharGen stuff set. That is my real issue I have.

I think the lizan should be in the desert. Just because they come from Black Marsh in the game doesn't mean we can't get creative. :)

True but I personally don't want to get 'racist' by putting the Gyptians under the Vampiric control, right?

No offense but your Land's name sounds a lot like Equestria.

And personally, do I care? I can always use the name of the land as a "reference". I do love putting in references a lot!

20 hours well spent?

just a coincidence that they're both spelled the same minus and R, and that you're one of those My Little Pony people?

but seriously, try to start smaller, work on a a small town, learn to model a pony, something like that. I've got 3 years behind me and i hope i know what i'm doing by now, but i wouldn't even dare begin a TC. if you want to make something completely new make a small island somewhere that has nothing to do with TES lore.

I know I can do it.. It is just the magic... I can't get it to work. I already made the starting town, and all, so I was able to get into game and start testing out the magic. No luck.

Why would I want to model a pony?

He didn't mean a pony specifically, he just meant you should get some more skills under your belt before you tackle a project this size and this difficult. I agree with him, btw. But, good luck either way.

One of the limits of the Morrowind Engine is that you can't create new spell effects. However, you can get a ton done through scripting. Check mods like these out:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=1981
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9504
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9412

Even cooler are MWSE mods. Such as Blasphemous Revenants, and other mods by Fliggerty. Here are a few:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7062&id=7239
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7062&id=4164
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7062&id=5282

Scripting is probably the easiest you are going to get new spell effects. When OpenMW comes out, hopefully it will support stuff like that, but it will be more complicated. Although, I can't wait for Python-based scripting.

Edit: Learning scripting is fairly easy. If you haven't learned a programming language (if you have you can pick up scripting by examining existing scripts), http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?id=6083&view=Mods.Detail is a good guide. Once you have spent a couple hours going through that, a couple references for a few more pitfalls of scripting are:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:Scripting_Pitfalls
http://mwmodders.com/scriptingnotes.html (this one also has a couple tricks+advice)

Return to III - Morrowind
