CS Landscape Tool Textures help?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 3:12 am

I know of the http://tommyshideout.net/files/srikandi/TESCSItemIndex/ for the CS. it has been invaluable so far whilst building my first interiors, but I'm getting frustrated with trying to craft exteriors now, and was wondering if there is a similar resource for the landscaping textures, as im sure most of you will know the preview window on the CS is not very useful, in showing you what the textures actually look like, it gets tiring to have to trawl through them every time I forget the specific texture I want.

Fishysticks and cookies for anyone providing me with help :)

I know exactly what you mean. That little preview window is useless, and I had to use trial and error to find the textures I wanted. Since I've now been working on the same (exterior) mod for over 4 years, at least I know exactly which 7 or 8 textures I need. But I also made myself screenshot captures of each of the roughly 106 ground textures available in vanilla MW, and have been wanting to put them in a catalog format (like Klinn's excellent Clothing Catalog), but haven't got around to it. Unfortunately, I made the jpg files too high res and they're all +/- 2Mb apiece, so I need to downsize them and package them together. Sorry this won't help you with your frustrations now, but I can certainly sympathize. If I can get it done soon, I will post something in this forum, as it may help others, as well.

Use IrfanView to batch process all the files when you do.

I have the same problem trying to find the texture I want. I wish there was a landscaping textures catalog. But I fixed the problem by renaming the textures to a definition I could remember. Example I named the green grass that looked like lawn, to "turf grass". If this works for you, I like the oatmeal kind.

OK I will keep that in mind. Checked out their homepage but they didn't exactly spell out what their program does. But if it will downsize all my jpg files via batch processes I'd be all for it! Wasn't looking forward to doing them one at a time in Photoshop. Same goes for screenshots of my mod. Thanks for the tip!

Photoshop is capable of batch-processing, too. Have a look at the Actions-palette. :)

I wouldn't assume everyone has PS- I made my comment before I knew he had PS.

IrfanView is simple and good at what it does. I've never batched anything in PS, so I can't compare. But IrfanView can resize, rename, move, copy, delete, change file type, filter, crop, resize, flip, rotate, add text, and change color depth on as many files as you need. You can even pick a "master folder" and it will operate on all files in all subfolders of that master folder.

Good stuff.

Didn't realize PS did that. Something I'll have to look into! :) In the meantime, I downloaded and used Irfanview and that is a great little program! Thanks Trunksbomb! That saved me a lot of time. I found the batch cropping capability to be the biggest timesaver.

As a result, I was able to slap together my terrain texture catalog. Now: Who can tell me how to distribute it... since I've never done this before. :hehe: I'm assuming there may be a few modders who would find it useful. I'm hoping it won't get too involved or complicated. The document itself is a relatively small (1.8 Mb) 8-page pdf file.

If you don't mind, I would like to have a copy of your catalog. I'm glad people like you do these things and help out. Because I just don't have great talent for software. My talent is more mechanical. Like remodeling homes, building stuff, fabricating. And I really love to Mod computer games. It started with a game called Duke Nukem 3D, then WorldCraft.

OK it's been uploaded at PES. I guess it won't be available till someone over there reviews it (within 24 hours). I will post a link in this thread when it's up. Thanks again for your help, Trunksbomb.

Leocody: Glad to share the catalog with you (and whoever else wants it)! Believe me, I've received a lot more here (advice, tips, help with scripts, ideas, inspiration, etc.) than I've given. So with this catalog I can at least partially return the many favors. :D

I wasnt sure when i posted this originally that there would be much hope but hurrah the community delivers :)
I'll be PMing Miltiades once its uploaded as well to get the PES link put on to the useful link list sticky, as im sure there are many more people who would benefit from this (seeing as a lot of people seem to be flocking back to MW for the CS nowadays)
