Lanius

So, what? I was supposed to talk to him at the end? I just entered the Legion camp and shot at any and all Legions there. I thought for a minute his name showed up in a neutral color, but I was like DIE LEGION DIE. LOL

It was not a 100 check for me (maybe since I passed several checks with him?), but it was for the NCR general dude.

I clearly remembered it being 100 speech check for Lanius. But that was before any DLCs came out.

The wiki say that his various Speech and Barter checks are at 55, 65, 75, 85 and 100. I checked and the Speech/Barter check always seems to be at 100, though it is at 80 if you want to fight him one-on-one.

He's actually very interesting to talk to, especially considering Legion accounts on his life seem contradictory.
It's also interesting because based on the end-game turn-outs for if he's the new Caesar, he's NOT the kind of man I would personally expect to be able to reason with, and yet I can.

Lanius may be a savage Legion profligate, but he is smart, has class, and is [censored] HARD TO FIGHT. Anyways, the original courier 6 was harder to fight then him??! LOL he would have pwned Lanius. But making Lanius flee would kinda only initiate a third battle for hoover dam in the future.

Blasting his head away is much more satisfying anyway.

I got him to leave to regroup. It wasn't a surrender, per se. I lied to him about everything, with lots of ego-stroking. I'm assuming there was, then, a 100 check if I pursued other dialogue options.

Different ways to deal with people. If you really want him to die, that first shot while he ain't aware really helps.

Lanius is a religious zealot for Mars, God of War. If you take the speech option (not the merchantile though), it actually seems to imply you've shaken his very world as he knows it, making him think twice about the need of war. Who knows where he could end up...

It's been a long time since I talked to Lanius which 100 speech. I thought you send him away to focus on keeping the East in Legion's control. Am I not remembering it correctly?

That's right. In the Event the Legion were to have both the East and the West, they would inherit the problems the NCR had. In theory.

I kill him on sight. I have no wish to speak to that filth. A violent, fatman based death is exactly what he deserves. If there was a chance to torture him to death, I would.

My main reasoning is...
Do a Lanius ending. EVERYBODY dies, because he treats everything as war. That's why I say he's a zealot for Mars (Caesar's explanation of him and his introduction to the Legion's final mission in a legion playthrough suggest this).
If you talk him down with speech though, the Courier practically straight up tells him he's a fool for thinking all problems must be solved with war. Lanius, instead of kicking his ass, seems to consider it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBAHzsqBmCA (the VERY last speech check is what I mean)

That is a wild theory and might be true, although we will never know, as it is kinda up to us to decide the future of Vegas. My fellow player, let me tell you one thing... I rp′ed that the Legion kept on coming. And i kept on killing. Whats a better way to make Vegas prospoures then to mass loot the [censored] out of a massive savage army? (funds were donated to the followers in term of meds and other [censored] the followers actually have but are too lazy to use)

So says the man with the Enclave flag on he′s back profile. America Enclave, the commonwealth. Burned away.

Why not take it a step further? Continue the conflict between NCR and Legion for House/Independent Vegas, whilst you quietly arrange things with the various tribes to make the area fully autonomous. Taking the equipment from Both and keeping several tactical spots constantly in dispute, Vegas would mooch from both.

I actually like talking to Lanius during the final battle. Probably the greatest argument in video game history.

I actually thought Ulysses was a little better. Oliver was terrible, but you really can't debate with House.

Maybe the Think Tank. Or Elijah. This game has too many awesome moments to count.

Yeah Ulysses is a cool guy to talk to as well. Idk. Maybe it's because Lanius is technically the "last boss" of the game. And in no other game can you talk the "last boss" into submission. It was pretty cool when I first played through it.

If you think he is such filth you shouldn't′t lower your self to his level by torture, just cap him in the head and be done with it.

I never got why people dislike the ending of that game so much, funny thing is it′s the only game that ever made me really emotional(as in i got really emotionally enfolved, i didn't start crying if that's what you're thinking).

I've beaten Legate Lanius twice using 60+ Barter and 100 Speech. First off, I kill his two annoying buddies, then he and I have a rather fascinating chit-chit together. Following this, he simply walks away (yet ready to battle another day, if necessary...)
