not sure rly i would of said it was over heating but you say it is cool .. you prob alredy do but if not download a tool to see your temps . i use speedfan (good and free) and check what are the safe temps for your cpu online and make sure you dont go over them .. short of that no idea .. good luck

Laptops are notorious for overheating, they simply can't cram sophisticated cooling into such a small package. Your best bet at cooling is to make sure the system fans are running full speed, and absolutely ensure the laptop is on a hard surface, (Not a blanket or a surface that absorbs heat.)

Keep in mind when a PC shuts down due to heat, it's protecting itself, if the laptop has too much prolonged exposure to extreme heat, you can permanently damage the motherboard.

i don`t think this game was designed for laptops of any kind.
anyway - try to play on low resoluton too. dont set only the graphics. also try to get Core Temp and MSI Afterburner to monitor the temperatures.
You can also try "Real Temp" - i guess it shows cpu and gpu temp.
If your temps are critical try to buy some device that could cool down your temps like:

well if it is overheating i would take the back off and look for the heatsynk (would look like a windy peace of metal behind where the hot air comes out) and clear that of all dust and hairs .. recomend useing a can of compresed air .. if you have none then an old toothbrush and blowing works quite well .. if that is clean and your still overheating it could be other things witch are a little more complex to fix .. but when your running laptop make sure all air holes arnt blocked and the hot air hole isnt blocked by say .. having the laptop on a blanket or somthing .. but would advise getting speedfan from download.com and see if thats your problem before taking firther action

80C is high for sure but it's not dangerous, just uncomfortable. GPUs are better able to take higher temps than CPUs so you're okay for now but consider a method to prop up the back of your laptop during gaming sessions. You can buy a ~$20 laptop coolers which have a fan built into them (as posted before).

also, you have the vsync option enabled? if not, enable it and see the temps again.

only way to find out is to buy a cooling system. I have the same setup that you do but mine has two giant blowers to cool it. it is an asus gamer's republic. the laptop is so huge because of the cooling system. but when i run crysis 2 on extreme, it averages only about 60C..........

Since were on the topic of of overheating and black screen stuff. I get the same problem on my comp. Im running 2xGTX 480 in sli and i get the black screen after a while of play but its always at random times. Of course right away i think its an overheat problem but i constantly run msi afterburner to watch my temps and even at both cards stock the game crashes and i get the black screen and have to reboot. But my temps dont get any hotter then they do playing Metro 2033, and i can play metro for hours without any problems but playing crysis 2 makes it crash. If i can be fast about it right when it black screens i can ctr+alt+delete and force quite crysis before it locks up my comp and i see the message in the bottom corner saying video drivers have failed but recovered and usually that happens with an overheat but idk why i can play metro just fine and crysis 2 is the only game that crashes. I dont know if it could be a driver issue because im running the newest beta drivers or what. Iv tried running in non sli and it still crashes.
