Laptop sound problems

Post » Mon Jan 17, 2011 10:07 am

I got a laptop (Advent Quantum Q200) for an early birthday present that has just recently came back from being repaired after it started to constantly have a blue screen of death.
However, once it came back, another problem has turned up. Whenever any headphones are plugged in to it, it ignores the headphones and carries on using the speakers instead. I've tried looking for a way to fix the problem on the internet and it sounds like it might be a missing driver causing it. I've also tried looking at the sound screen in the control panel and the headphones don't appear on the device list either.
Is there any way this can be fixed?
Thanks for any help.

If you're running Windows 7 make sure http://i.imgur.com/lkGHX.jpg are checked, and enable the external audio port if it's disabled. Windows 7 only outputs audio from whichever device you set as the "default device".

If it doesn't show up on the device list even after checking those two options, then check the manufacturer website for the proper sound driver download.

I've had a look on the sound page and there is only one sound device turning up, even with the disconnected and disabled devices showing. I've also tried looking for the missing driver on the internet but I have had no success in finding it.

USB headphones or TRS headphones?

I don't know the difference but the headphones are not wireless and are plugged into the headphone slot on the laptop.

I also found two websites claiming to correct the driver problem but I don't know if they are safe or not.
These are the websites: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/advent+drivers+quantum+q200/7.html http://www.driverdetective.org.uk/headphone-drivers/

Sorry about the double post, I don't know how to add replies to existing posts.

EDIT: The laptop has had to be sent back for repairs and/or replacement. Hopefully the next one will work better.
