Then you should be good with either, though Fallout 3 is perhaps a bit closer to that mold. They both use mostly the same tech as Oblivion though I think.

They are more modern, but not better the first 2 games, though New Vegas is very close.

If your after a superb FPS experience then this is one of the best games in gaming history :) for it! Fallout 3 is the game you want closely followed by New Vegas.

If you are looking for something like Oblivion, Fallout 3 is right up your alley. If you didn't like Fallout 2, you may not like New Vegas as much.

Surely I don't ;) Not when it comes to the Cracking Fallout 3 :)

I know theres lot of original FO fans that don't rate it as much as the other games, but I do, it completely blew me away :nuke: I love that game even Vegas didn't better it, and I was hoping it would but it dropped short for me, great game Vegas but FO3 had a profound effect on me. Yes I'm a late comer. And yes I went back and played the originals. IMO Yes FO3 is the best game in the series!

That's Fallout 3 all over.

While this hasn't been done yet.

As far as the thread's title...

"Is las vegas or 3 more like oblivion in terms of the tech? "

Tech? They're all on pretty much the same engine, so I don't know what to tell ya there.

"Are the last 2 games better and more modern?"

More modern, of course. Better? Matter of opinion, and mine is No. Way. In. Hell.

For me, New Vegas feels a bit more like Oblivion. A lot more craftables, and you can wander the desert looking for plants to pick. I did that WAY too much in Oblivion.

Well, I'd love to have your enthusiasm, but I simply fail to enjoy F3 without heavily-modding it. For a guy who *discovered* Fallout Tactics, 1 and 2(in this particular order) in 2002 I get a better vibe from NV.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.

If you want something like Oblivion, get Fallout 3 and not New Vegas. New Vegas is lacking in the exploration, dungeon crawls, fun combat part of things. Really lacking. If you like walking for two hours to kill two dogs, get New Vegas. If you like going back and forth between two people delivering messages over and over and over again, get New Vegas. If you liked clearing forts and ruins for loot, searching all of the crates, barrels and chests you could find, running across the land smacking down Marauders, Bandits and Minotaurs for fun, get Fallout 3.

I played Fallout 3 first, then I went back and played 1 and 2, and I can safely say Fallout 3 is the 2nd worst in the series, the worst being Fallout:PoS.

I am sorry but how is the combat in NV lacking? It doesn't have 4 meters tall mutants or Transformers shooting lazors out of their eyes?
The way you described it makes F3 look like a cluster[censored] with random things happening over the time. Or Diablo 2.

I can safely say that its the best in the series ;) agree with you on the BoS though :) Comparing the FO1 & 2 to FO 3 is like comparing Mario to Doom ;) Only kidding. I do love my mindless action :gun:

F3 is a sequel, its going to be compared to the first 2, no matter how much you don't want it to, and since it is a sequel I think its perfectly fair to compare it to past games.

Was someone saying it wasn't fair to compare them? Can't get to read everything seeing as I'm at work, supposedly working can only glance over these threads.

Well you did say that comparing them is like comparing Mario and Doom, which makes no sense what so ever.

It happens to me as well sometimes, just quick read a post, answer it and then go back to it later and see I've been talking about something else completely to what was actually there, most of the stuff I write anyway is usually for fun or to provoke a debate. I get the same resistence to remakes though over on other forums I visit as well lol :)

I'm kinda ehhhh, The techs the same but it does look better on Fallout 3 and especially on New Vegas although in my opinion Oblivion is the most stable of the 3 games. The reason why I say that is the amount of time that was spent making each of the worlds. Oblvion had more time when compared to FO3 and New Vegas although Oblivion was rushed when the 360 came out.
