Mr. Las Vegas

Post » Fri May 14, 2010 4:26 am

As the obvious heir apparent to Three Dog, to me he seems to have about as much charisma as a dead fish. And most of his banter actually makes me cringe.

For that matter, doesn't it seem like the entire radio segment of the game is rather "anemic"? Such as, the number of songs played by ALL of the DJs is only a tiny fraction of what was available in FO3.

[NOT trolling. Just wondering if I'm alone in this perception, or if there are others that feel the same way.]

Three Dog was an annoying piece of crap. I really like how Vegas is a laid back guy and doesn't seem to give much of a [censored].

I hate the radio. It puts me to sleep. I listen to the ambient noise and music in this game as opposed to the radio in Fallout3. I'm somewhat grateful the radio svcks. The ambiance is amazing.

I like him a lot more than Three Dog... Newtown's voice acting is superb and the character is more nuanced and subtle, while having the perfect Vegas attitude. Three Dog was just loud and obnoxious, like most of the so-called "memorable" Fallout 3 characters.

I do.

I mean come on, did you really want another ranting three dog on the radio? Seriously this guy just loves all of us so much!

He is also strung out all the time. Which is another reason I like him.

I (mostly) liked Three Dog. I like Mr. New Vegas, too. Two very different DJs representing two very different concepts.

The ambient noises in FONV are amazing to say the least. I love when you hear random gunfights going on, the odd firing of what sounds like a big ass gun (i'm not that far in the game so if you find out what that is sorry i havent gotten there yet) and a lot more. I haven't listened to the radio much but I did a lot in FO3, and I liked Three Dog. As soon as the update comes out (to fix the DLC Glitch game saves problem) ill be sure to be listening to the radio. Considering that glitch has corrupted all of my saves, leaving me with no option of playing, unless I start again, which isn't happening.

I love Mister New Negas. Unlike Three Dog, he doesn't harass the player into being a saint... SHUT UP AND PRESS 'PLAY' ALREADY!!! :brokencomputer:

Newton just seems like a sleazy lounge singer. The whole fake "You're special" and "I love you [listeners]" comes off as creepy and forced.

I don't really care much for his radio station or his dialogue. He's barely says anything and his radio station lacks variety.

I had never heard of Wayne Newton till Fallout New Vegas, and if this is anything to go by, I'm glad I've gone nearly 40 years before having to listen to the talentless waste of space.

He never seems to talk a lot. What I liked about Three Dog's broadcasts was that when he talked, it was for a good amount of time, but Mr. New Vegas barely ever says anything. Sometimes I'll hear him talking on a radio in a building, switch my own radio on, and only get to hear him for a few seconds before he turns back on the sub-par music in this game.

Plus, the best quality of Three Dog was that he could die, and be replaced by someone who doesn't really ever say anything, letting us listen to Fallout 3's great music instead. If New Vegas had great music, I wouldn't mind Mr. New Vegas not talking a lot, but it doesn't. Even if you can kill him (I don't know if you can), it's pointless because I don't want to hear the music anyway.

There seems to be a problem with the radios not playing the full list of songs at the moment. They are set to randomize the songs, but something is not right with the scripts, so they end up repeating the same handful again and again. In actuality there are 48 radio songs in New Vegas, as opposed to only 20 in FO3, we just aren't hearing them all at the moment.

And I like Mr. New Vegas (Wayne Newton). I LIKE that he is laid back and non-excitable. I find his banter to be endearing and charming, and done in a very low key "wink-wink" sort of way, like he knows he and his listeners don't know each other, but are both in on the joke of assuming they do. I love his song and artist introductions, and the fact that, unlike Three Dog, he isn't screaming in my ear or constantly talking about me. Oh, and unlike Three Dog, he isn't pushing an agenda and point of view. He is a DJ, he plays music for me to enjoy and tells me the news, end of story.

If you think Wayne Newton has the charisma of a dead fish, the laidback, "cool cat" attitude of the 1950s Vegas players is obviously lost on you.

I completely agree with the OP. I loved Three Dog, and Mr Las Vegas is just plain boring. I like the songs, but there are too few of them.

[Not replying to you specifically, but to the whole "I like Mr. LasVegas" crowd.]

I'm glad that several of you identified Mr. LasVegas as Wayne Newton -- otherwise I would **never** have recognized who it was. It's hard to recognize that THAT is the voice that is renowned for singing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUryeDLpY_c". For the 30+ hours that I've been playing FNV, every time I heard him, he makes me think of an old geezer somewhere between Old and Ancient that can't seem to grasp that he's NOT in his 20s anymore. Kind of pathetic sounding, actually. Conjures up the image of an elderly fellow in a wheelchair svcking on an oxygen tank, flirting with the candystripers at the Old Folks Home.

I'll readily grant that Three Dog was frequently annoying, in a "Good Morning Vietnam!" kind of way. But pretty much _everything_ he broadcast, it was easy to tell he was **enthusiastic** about. Conversely, Mr. Las Vegas sounds like he's simply going through the motion, especially when he's doing the news. To me, anyways, that's what it sounds like.
