Last Minute Wishes

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 11:19 am

Hey everybody, I go by Beware and this topic is for any last minute wishes you might have for what is sure to be the game of the year.

To start things off I'll bring up one of my biggest wishes. Dynamic Birthsigns. I know it may not sound important but let me explain.

In Oblivion I loved the idea of Birthsigns, they made you unique, they gave you cool powers but sooner or later I realised that the birthsigns were only a fraction of what they could be. As I got further into the game I realised that birthsigns were underpowered and a huge waste of potential. They weren't important anymore because you could do everything a birthsign could do and better with practice. Why even have a birthsign if it will be forgotten.

So I thought of this: Birth Sign Evolution. With every level up your birthsign will increase in power some way and for every ten levels you recieve a perk exclusive to your birthsign. This would dramaticaly increase a characters uniqueness and power at the same time. Fans of this great series like me do not want a weak, unimpressive character. We want our characters to feel powerful and original and I hope you guys at Bethesda do too and I believe this is a sure way of doing it. Not only would it be down right awesome it would add huge replay value and it would give fans like me a high I won't come off of for months.

An example of this would be the Atronach Birthsign from Oblivion. I loved it. I loved it. That birthsign made the game so much more challenging and fun but sooner or later I felt unsatisfied because I realised how far it could go and how limited it was. In Oblivion the Birthsign granted a bonus of 150 points toward magicka, no magic regeneration and a 50% chance to absorb spells which was great, it really was but sooner or later it becomes stagnant and stagnant is not good. It remains the same throughout the entire game and loses its flare because anyone can boost there magicka and anyone can absorb spells and as enemies become tougher you need more power to face them. The birthsign can supply that power in a way that only a birthsign can. If birthsigns had evolutions a sign such as Atronach could increase the effectivness of spells by a small amount every level up and every ten levels a perk could be chosen to do things like increase the percentage of spell absorbtion(possibly to 100%) and/or supply another huge boost in magicka capacity. Another perk would be the ability to learn how to use the spells that your character has absorbed. The end result would be terrifiying. A character that can absorb any spell thrown at him/her and throw it back ten times worse with no visible drain on his/her magicka supply. Theres so many ways this can go, it'd be a sensation.

I would really like to see birthsign evolutions in Skyrim it could make things so much more solid. I'd also love to see new signs as well. Signs like 'the alchemist' which makes potions made with alchemy extremly powerful and allows the player to mix existing potions with each other and stuff like that(Throwable poisens and explosives would be really cool, just like grenades from fallout) or a sign like 'the archer' that lets you do stuff like shoot multiple arrows at the same time, destroying enemys at close range(sort of like a shotgun, imagine three explosive arrows hitting a troll at the same time!) and/or let players target areas of the body like V.A.T.S in Fallout 3. I can think of so much more but I think anyone readiing this gets my point by now. Thanks for all the great games Bethesda keep it up, your games are a part of my life.

Weeell... that would be odd. Stars and sign are related to gods and thing like that in TES. I mean, they're part of the Lore. You cannot make up a Birthsign from nothing.

By the way, welcome.

The time is almost up

Your clock may run a bit too late. In my clock there's still 8 months left...

Oh, well that would be odd, I just thought it was a good idea. Still, firing three explosive arrows into a troll at the same time sounds great :-)

Still more than half a year left till release. Hardly a situation where "Time is almost up", but yeah I'll roll with it. Your idea of non-static birth signs isn't a bad one, though I can assure you it probably not going to happen.

My wish? I wish for fish(y stick)! :3

I'd like to see a bigger point to spelunking in ancient ruins. Specifically, I'd like to hunt through ancient catacombs to find hidden volumes of ancient Spell Books that grant the Mage, after decoding of some obscure language, some new Arcane spells and abilities (and perhaps necromancy summons) that can't be found elsewhere.
And I don't mean just one spell per volume. One new series of long forgotten magic per.

Thankfully we'll already almost be doing this for Dragon Shouts, but I'd like it to be deeper and more magic geared as well.

I don't when Bethesda gonna finish up and tie all loose strings. I just know time flys and now is as good a time as any to get in any ideas while I still can.

Let's Falloutize Skyrim a little more shall we?
I'd like to see traits implemented.
NV's ones were quite frankly pathetic but with enough choices and better effects and worse drawbacks it could enhance the roleplaying bit.

Well it's not like they add new things right up to the release date, it has to be thought up months in advance and adding it in takes time. So yeah time is almost up.

I like the birthsign idea but I do not like the idea of bring V.A.T.S. or a V.A.T.S. like system to TES. It's just takes away from both series being original.

I do like the idea of explosive potions and I really like the idea of shooting multiple arrows at once.

I would really like to see bedrolls that can have you sleep anywhere.

I want options that trigger different and very serious consequences later in the game. Am I too early or too late?

Much better lighting than this: http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/520246-1298584608.jpg
Just look at his back... and the snow to the right. How could the lighting go this wrong? Looks almost exactly like Oblivion in this scene.

BOO HOO MY HUGE OPEN WORLD RPG HAS UNREALISTIC LIGHTING.

Why the hell does this matter? This is an Elder Scrolls game, not Call of Duty. There's more important stuff to focus on than perfect lighting.

Calm down... maybe it's not the most important thing (he hasn't said that), but... well, Bethesda has never been brilliant, with lighting. Although I don't find the lighting there that bad.

DX11 support added into the final PC build, even if the game doesn't use it - which will allow some fantastic mods and future-proof the graphics. Climbing would be nice too.

So you're saying that only an FPS game is able to have decent lighting?
And that lighting isn't important?

Good luck with that argument.
If you start like that, there's not even any point in responding to it, barely. Because you already got your mind fixed. And like WiseWiselman said, who is wise... calm down.

Oh no, the lightning! It's bad... and...

Sorry, I don't see anything. What's wrong with the picture again?

I seem to bring up the same point in all these "pie in the sky" wish threads. Cloth and hair physics. I have no idea why I am fixated on that recently. Maybe because I've been playing OB with some new hair meshes that really look great, but the clipping, oh the horror. So yeah, that. No idea if it is even feasible or not but that would be my last minute wish.

A better polished and balanced "Character's Special Advantages and Disadvantages" system of Daggerfall's character creation, pretty please?

I wish for the devs to be trapped in a time bubble and do 8 months of work in a week, and the game comes out in two weeks.

I hate to be a dream killer to all you folks spamming these boards with ideas.. but this is the general discussion board...

I realize people are excited, but this isn't a suggestions board; and even if it were, game development kind of doesn't function off of what 10-20 people want on the forums..

Game development takes place over the course of years of planning and developement. They don't just read the forums and tell all (say 100) of their team members to halt what they're doing, 5 people want old people to walk like cripples, or one guy thinks the birthsign system needs an overhaul.

They make plans like an architect, and they stick to them and adjust them based on what THEY think needs changed, not what people posting on the forums say. While forum pvssyr is nice, its nothing more than fun for the fans to participate in.

I'm only saying this so no one gets their hopes up.

I think one thing confuse with this type of game is MMORPGs, and Beta test forums. These forums are neither of those, so you can ask for things all day long, but unless what you want was ALREADY planned by the company, chances are your idea is going to stay by the wayside.

Sorry.
