Last TES-game?

Post » Mon Jul 19, 2010 3:22 am

Since the plot of Skyrim is including and sort of summing up the stories from the previous TES-games, could this be a sign of this being a conclusion to the TES-saga overall? The last TES-game? I hope not, it was just a thought a friend of mine had, so I thought I'd ask here what you guys think.

Nope.

However it might be the last single player TES game for a long time (I know that's not a popular opinion but it seems realistic)

I hope it lasts as long and has as many games as Final Fantasy.

It could very well result in a pathway to the next games. I don't think they are done, but we might have to wait 4-6 years. There might be an MMO, however.

It would only be a new beginning after, it's not necessarily the end. Like the end of a story arc or something.

I hope not, but right now I think we need to actually get THIS game before thinking of what is or isn't coming next...

I could go for a Redguard-esque game for an interlude.

I have been slightly worried that this might be the last ES game every since people on here first mentioned Alduin. :sadvaultboy:

From a different company or Bethesda?

I agree, I didn't mean to speculate about what the next game will be. Just wondering if the story of Skyrim could be a conclusion of the saga. :)

Of course not.
There are so many many provinces left without a game dedicated to them.
I think we will have at least 5 more TES games before the saga ends.

I will hate Bethesda if they end the Elder Scrolls series before making a game where you can play in all of Tamriel. If they make that game, then I'll be content.

The last TES game will be the one where sales are so lackluster that they do not justify making another.

Yeah, dropping your flagship series of nearly 17 years that's currently rapidly growing in popularity and prestige is a brilliant idea. [/sarcasm]

No, I don't believe it will be the last one. Why would it be? Actually, considering how separate it is from its predecessors (away from the Septim empire, 200 years into the future instead of the 40 year gap between TES I and TES IV), I think Skyrim is actually a beginning of a new chapter of the Elder Scrolls series. It likely will not be out in this new time period by itself, if you ask me.

It's called The Elder Scrolls I: Arena.

A game spanning all of Tamriel with the quality of Bethesda's two more recent Elder Scrolls games doesn't seem possible, to me.

Arena ;)

But yeah I know you mean the whole of Tamriel in detail (not even sure if that is possible without tons of randomised areas?, As that would take absolute ages).

The perfect ending to TES would have to be, in my honest opinion, a game that encompasses all of tamriel. Entire Tamriel at your feet to explore. Im not even talking MMO here. That would be one hell of a big game. Probably would take like 5-6 years to complete but it would be so immersive, so open ended, so big, so endless, and of course mod-ready, that it would never actually end. It would live on... FOREVER !

Games that sell so well their creators would have to be crazy to stop making them, hardly sell at all compared to sibgle-player TES games.

I'm sure the piles of money everyone involved with the TES games are currently sitting on, makes the unlikely fantasy of a WoW killer seem like something they could actually do (and they'll fail like everyone else), but there's no particular reason that would interfere with the future of single-player TES games.

I don't see any logic behind Bethesda axing one of the most popular and critically acclaimed series of all time. Like Seti, I personally think lots of the engine and gameplay overhauls in Skyrim are actually paving the way for the new "third generation" of TES games. Now how exactly you make a plot for TES VI that's more epic than a fight against Alduin, who knows. But hey, Guild Wars: Nightfall had you fight a god and then they still managed to do something for Eye of the North.

I'm pretty sure they announced the MMO would not be for TES, but for another popular series. I can't remember if Brink is going to be an MMO, but I think that project is being worked on by a different team.
