LastPass Hacked. Change Master Passwords Now

Post » Tue Jun 16, 2015 1:54 pm

Authentication hashes are what are used for account access. Changing your master password should be enough, though if you want to be completely sure your account wasn't accessed, you should also change all your stored passwords.

Or maybe take this moment to switch to http://keepass.info/index.html instead, which doesn't have these cloud problems. Though LastPass has handled this in a professional and appropriate manner (unlike other companies after they get hacked).

I recently tried LastPass, after seeing you mention it in a topic not too long ago. I quickly got weirded out by the online part of it for this exact reason so I deleted my account 3 days ago. I had it installed for less that a week. I just hope there is no backup they have yet to delete or something.

I've been using KeePass for years now and have obviously gone back to it.

I'll add another recommendation for KeePass. Even though LastPass seems to be doing things reasonably well from a security perspective an online password repository is just too much of a target, so breaches like this will continue to happen.
