Latest PS4 patch removes letterboxing

Post » Fri Jun 26, 2015 4:37 am

So I just checked this at home and you can toggle between having or not having the black bars. I think this is pretty amazing but I would like to know how it was possible. Is the performance taking any hits? Is the resolution lower to be able to fill the entire screen?

Anyway, thanks to the developers to actually support a game a year after. Amazing work.

There's a new 4 gig update for ps4. Go to the Screen options and there it is. Pretty amazing really. But I still would like to know how it's technically possible when we all thought the bars were there to help with the rendering (and because Mikami likes the ratio, yes).

hell yeah... i will try it when i return home. Its an awesome option but your right about the technical performance.

The game has already a lot of framerate issues and frame drops (most in chapters 2,3,4,6 and 12)... hope it doesnt get worst.

The 3 dlc(s) have better performance than the main game.

The dlcs have better performance but I don't think you can compare them technically and artistically with the main game. They look very tame. The keeper was already full screen but everything in the Spencer (!) house looked worse. There's barely any lighting and shadow effects going on there. Can't wait to finish my nightmare run in glorious full screen. :)

Could someone give us the details on this latest patch. 4 gigs just for a letterbox toggle?

For optimisation....it means that almost every level and its asstest has been updated....thus removing letterboxing on consoles became available with no performance loss.

Has anyone played the game after the update for PC?

Do the levels actually load better now on PC?

The update is for all platforms.

Here's Bethesda's blog post on it: http://www.bethblog.com/2015/06/23/the-evil-within-full-screen-title-update/

I'm on Xbox 360, I've just downloaded the update myself and the option is there for me, under Options-> Graphics-> Letterbox. I was a little surprised to see this as an option as well, didn't think Bethesda wanted to remove the black bars for the consoles but I guess they changed their minds, looks like too many people wanted them gone.

What the...

So that means players will be able to get the "it is what it is Trophy" (no upgrade run through) easier than those who got it before.

I worked my ass of in the anolgram Alpha, and two Keeper boss fights to get that trophy.
