I attribute the PSN outage to why it didn't move as many units for PS3. But yea, 700K in two weeks is solid for a brand spanking new IP. Even with the bad press, majority of people who are still buying the game now are the ones who are listening to what us, the "die hard" Brink players are saying. Because we're objective with how we view the game. We all know it's far from perfect. But we also know the game is fun to play, and is a welcomed change from the "cookie cutter" FPS games on the market. When a person hears from their friend, co-worker or relative that a game is worth playing, they tend to take their word more then some hack review site.
I'm a PS3, and I have 9 people on my FL who play Brink. It's not much, but the guys who I play with in turn...have people THEY play with, and so on. And hence is how the Brink Community on all platforms is forming, though I think it's forming a bit faster on the PS3 since a VAST majority of MAG players (of which I am) are Brink players as well, since both games focus on team play and tactics rather then run & gun action. And as I've said before in other threads, there have been far worse games that have earned sequels. Anyone ever play Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights? I wish I hadn't...because it was the sequel to a HORRIBLE racing game...that wasn't as horrible, but wasn't very good either. I think the game barely moved 3 million units TO DATE...and it came out in 2007. I thin Brink's gonna do juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust fine, folks. It won't dethrone CoD as the best FPS game on the market (Battlefield 3 will be doing that), but it has...and is building it's own market and fan base...which is the most important aspect of a game's success of all.
