So as a pretty run of the mill nerd my interests lie outside of video games and extend into other similarly nerdy things like history and ancient languages. I spend about an hour a day reading, writing and practicing my Latin which admittedly cuts into time I could be bashing a giant's head in with an axe, but these are the sacrifices we make for the things we love.

With the Imperial Legion, there is much the game could use in terms of cross over words but Bethesda wisely created their own language instead of a real one they could easily be called out on the errors for. Frankly this is probably a good thing although FNV gave me hope when Caesar's name was pronounced correctly and the foot soldiers said 'ah-way' instead of 'ah-vey'. In the combination of two things I love I name almost everything I craft in Latin as my character has a Latin name. He's Argonian, hatched in Black Marsh but never knew his parents and was raised by Latin speaking parents in Cyrodil.

So, as a service to the board and to keep my skills sharp I am willing to translate the names of your favorite weapons or do requests for future weapons should you want them. Autodidacta sum; I am an autodidact and as such my answers are perfectly amateur and should not be tattooed on yourself by any means. I am however proficient enough to be able to read in Latin and am certainly up to the task of simple noun-adjective translations.

I'll list a few of my favorites and their translations/corresponding items. Feel free to make as many requests as you'd like, I'll get to all of them eventually. It's not only enjoyable work for me but a challenge to properly translate each without looking up gender, declension endings, et cetera. Please allow time if you have multiple requests.

First and foremost, yes, there is a word for Dragonborn and you can find it in virtually any Latin dictionary worth its salt. Draconigena, -ae [drah-kon-ee-GEN-a], dragon born, sprung from dragons.

I just use Google Translate.

Every name I come up with for a new characters, starts out as a one, two or three word phrase that describes the character's personality or skilled traits. Then I use the Google Translate and peruse through the languages until I come across one that sounds the best. Some happen to be Latin.

However, this sounds fun. Good luck with it.
