I Launch The Game 30 times, It Eventually Launches

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:47 am

Okay, so, I'll make this quick. I originally thought it had to do with me fixing it every time I start the game. (From restarting my PC, to setting it to run in compatibility mode, to verifying the game cache), I thought my fixes had to do with the fact it eventually launched.

But now I don't think that's the case.

  • I launch the game from Steam
  • I click 'play'
  • It begins to start, then closes without any form of error message

The above repeats a dozen times. It eventually launches and runs just fine. But not after hours have been spent re-launching it.

It's definitely a software issue, because if it was hardware, it wouldn't launch at all or ever. (It runs just fine, once I get it launched.)

EDIT: It won't launch at all now.

EDIT: It launched now. But it took 4 hours to fix now.

EDIT: Today, I got it to launch on my second try. I went through a small process to get it to work. It may just be a fluke, I have not tested it, but I can guarantee you it's almost NEVER launched on the second try, so this process must be worth something.

- Restart(or start for the first time in a day) your PC.
- In your Documents/MyGames/Fallout4 folder, delete Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Prefs.Ini, and Fallout4Custom.ini
- Start Steam
- Right click on Fallout 4, properties, local files, and verify the integrity of game cache.
- Start the game once that finishes.

Once again, not a proven work-around, as I've only tried it once and it worked once, but even if it is a good work-around, it might still require a few tries to start the game. So keep that in mind.

Yeah, that's the major problem with this game so far. Either it launches or not. And if it launches, after a couple of hours it crashes again. And that's it. And then all over again...

Either it's hardware related to some systems (almost impossible to figure it out with thousands of different configurations around) or it's game related, and then it's Beth's problem for sure.

Sometimes it crashes again, apparently. I've played it for multiple hours(way more than I wanted to) and it doesn't crash. The problem for me is literally just with launching it. :l

Do you launch it through steam and cloud sync or off-line mod?

Through Steam. Cloud Sync.

I should also mention now it won't work at all. I have spent the past five consecutive hours trying to launch it. And it hasn't now.

EDIT: Nevermind. Got it to launch finally. But this time it's taken 4 hours.

Enter the FO4 launcher and right after you press play alt-tab to a different program. Doing this the game launches more often. Never has taken more than 2 mins to launch the game this way. It's a teporary fix though, I usually alt-tab to HWMonitor, alt-tabbing to task manager for some reason doesn't work for me.

Hope it helps.

I noticed it did that as well. Unfortunately, it, like the other fixes I have tried, is not guaranteed, not even in a 1-10 chance.

Hey there, first off i bought a $2k new computer just to play this game so my computer is powerful enough i promise!

I downloaded FO4 and told it to "Play" from my Steam library. A FO4 launcher comes up with the options "Play", "Options, "Support", and "Exit". I press play and nothing happens. On the library screen it says "playing" beside FO 4 for like 3 seconds then nothing. The game isnt running there or in the background. My drivers are up-to-date and the system can easily handle the specs.

Same issue?

I have sent support a request for help 4 times and I keep getting the same form letter response back... SO FRUSTRATING!! Here is their response:

It might be. But if you can't get it to run at all, it might be different.

Well, when I click "Play" on the launcher, the launcher disappears and it says "Playing" for like 3 seconds beside the Fallout 4 game in my Steam library, but then the "Playing" goes away.

Same with you?

Intel® Core i7-4790K 4.0 GHz 8MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1150, overclocked to 4.40GhZ
16GB (8GBx2) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory G.Skill RipJaw
Windows 10, 64 bit OS, x64 bit processor
MSI GUARD-PRO ATX motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 (MSI manufacturer)
1TB SSD/ 2TB HDD

So you have more RAM then me (way more then you need!) but that seems about the only real difference?
