Law System With Settlements?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:06 pm

As you're settlement grows, there will be lawbreakers such as thieves, killers, exporting illegal goods. Do you think it would be nice to have a law system? I do, and the punishment is slavery, or execution. Sometimes you have to be rough with these savages.

I doubt they plan to go that far as to include NPC being up to crime and such in your settlement. They are just there to automate settlements tasks and act as filler so ya settlement doesn't look to empty.

Was this confirmed? If so, is there any indication that there will be some sort of law system?

@Physcotrip No, but it is a settlement after all. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those maggots broke the law.

I doubt it will be much more than building stuff and some "settlers" for filler. Every time they announce a game (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim...) these forums go crazy with over the top expectations... lol

@Ataractic Well it is Fallout 4, of course everyone(including me) will go over the top with expectations. And if my wishes aren't fulfilled I wouldn't mind, at least I wouldn't be getting a buggy a** game like State Of Decay YOSE, that game really disappointed me.

As far as post apocalyptic society goes I'm fine with punishing most crimes with a death sentence, keeps things simple.

The only instance that I can find of an NPC in any Bethesda game breaking a law in towns, that isn't scripted, are the randomly spawning thieves. It would be nice to have scum to clean up off the streets, but I'll have to find a way to process gibs into sandwiches.

@Sirroockyqo Like in Skyrim, I always see a thief in one of the towns stealing. And they always fail! XD

A law system would have to make sense and be lax enough to reflect post-apocalyptic rules. There would be more witch-hunts, and rigged trials based on your reputation. I liked the idea of the contract killers and regulators but they could I guess have more authority than just being surprise encounters too,

However it would be frustrating if the system was like Oblivion's where you cant have any fun without a guard finding you on satellite and forcing you to confess or fight.

No. The law system should be flexable with relativity. Highly guarded military areas or higher class settlements should have some sort of penalty but the villages and small towns should have smaller power to control you.

Punishments should be based on the level of your offenses and type of crime a long side with multiples of said offense while depending on the area. Only the cities like Megaton would ideally jail you, raiders would tie you up and torture you, the military would kill you or experiment on you like terrorist or treason crimes, and wanderers would just fight you.

if you kill someone and survive then they were weak and had it coming and if you steal something and get away with it you deserve the item more than the one who held it :chaos:

You remind me of myself when I first started posting here 4 years ago...

It's actually pretty eerie. Really though, I think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. Nothing Bethesda makes will compare to these awesome ideas you keep posting. I know because I've been there.

@Physcotrip Well maybe you're right, I'm just hyped for this system and I can't help it.

Well, raiders can and will attack your settlements, so it's not like it's all Fancy Lads and Nuka Cola. Makes me wonder if there might a mayoral system to handle lawbreakers.

Like, say we build a jail, and sometimes we come back and find someone in there.

"The bastard..."

I honestly have no idea what the system would be, just that there should be some kind of civility and law in the settlements.

Likely the only kind of trouble for people's settlements will be caravan's being attacked, raiders attacking the settlements, and any sort of "justice" being handed out will be the PC having to handle these things in the moment. I don't think they're turning Fallout into a settlement creation game. At least, I sure hope not.

It depends, really. I'd prefer different forms of punishment based on what the crime is. But if I have a raider town, if possible, who needs rules?

"THEN PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD!"

Personally, if I could, I would send them to exile and assign them tasks to redeem themselves e.g. scavenge items, acquire weapons

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Either exile or death depending on the crime.

I think that It'd be pretty neat if you sent them into exile and they returned a few weeks later a band of raiders in a quest for revenge.
